Do I need a FFL to return ammo?

Hey CALGUN shooters....I have a situation where I need to return (ship out of commiefornia) ammo. Do I need to go through a FFL to do this?

My local shop could not find anything on this. The mfg. says I will need a FFL to ship it to them? What better place to ask than here!

I realize I need one to receive the replaced ammo but this could save me 2 extra 70 mile round trips.

If the mfg says ffl why ask? Do you think anyone here can change their policy?
Maybe sell it on here and order more.

There is no law that requires ammo to be shipped by a FFL. But you do have to ship it properly marked (ORM-D or the new equivalent) and using the drop off and service methods required by the carrier (usually dropped at a UPS hub or tendered direct to a driver but NOT dropped at a UPS Store and NOT at any other retail drop off location, and shipped by ground service).

But in the end, whatever the person taking back the ammo wants is what you have to do. But I am surprised anyone would accept an ammo return. Usually no returns are allowed on ammo. What situation led to you getting so much of the wrong ammo that it is worth returning?

Thanks SkyHawk....The company is going to send the shipping label so I assume they will have it properly labeled.

In answer to the "situation" is that I purchased this ammo (a substantial amount) several years ago and it turns out to be soft brass and sticking so bad I could not extract it. Had to pound out each one. I stored it when I got it and decided to try some out one day when I discovered this. They offered to replace it. Apparently I was not the only one with this issue.

If they require it to go through a FFL then I suppose that will have to be.
