Firearms purchase without a Real ID

    Hello all,

I am a new resident to Southern California and seem to be getting mixed replies so I thought I would ask here.

Just moved here a month ago and when I got my CA DL, I got the regular ID because I didn't have 2 bills that showed my new address. Just my lease agreement...my bank and utility companies were absolutely no help in this in getting something with my address on it.

I would really like to purchase a shotgun soon and wanted to know if my regular DL and passport is enough for most places to do a PPT or even buy a new firearm from them.

I would hate to meet up with someone trying to do a PPT and get turned about because of this Real ID BS.

Thanks in advance for any feedback/suggestions.

You will need a recent bill of your utilities or car registration in your name that matches the address on your DL for alot of LGS, like ammobros, turners, riflegear.

Thank you all. I really appreciate the information.

I have bills with my address on it now and a car registration now as well.

Just didn't want to go back to the DMV for the Real ID again when I just got my DL a month ago.

Also, since you are new, you will need to get the FSC.
(Firearms test, your FFL will likely have it.)

Don't call it a "regular ID". Call it an "FLA" ID.

Well there is a FLA ID, Real ID, and Regular (Legacy ID)

Already took care of that part. Missed 1 question because I forgot the new age for rifle purchase was 21 and no longer 18.

True. I guess it is FLA ID and not a regular ID.
