    Self defense while at work.

So hypothetically speaking, if you were working at a business and a disgruntled tenant does a drive-by. Would it be legal to return fire?
If not in the right area please move.

    Too vague

I work on the 8th floor in a tower

I work at McDonald’s drive through.

    Some say yes-some say no

Tell me about what you do, where you work and if you have a letter from owner saying it’s ok to CCW at work
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Are you scared that your life is in danger at the moment you ran out of your work place in to the middle of the street and fired off a few rounds at a car driving away. You did say drive by right? No one on the webs can answer this question for anyone else.

I'm not a lawyer, but sounds like it would be a bad idea to return fire when they are driving away

What about innocent bystanders? What if the shooter has his kid or other person in the car with him.

            Not a good idea.

Lets be honest, by the time anyone get up off the floor and change their shorts the guy(s) will be long gone.

Needs to be more specific as to what's happening.

But to that broad question I'd say if I am involved in a gunfight and I have a gun I'm going to return fire. That, of course, may change due to more specifics on the scenario.

Generally I can't think of a active shooter scenario where it wouldn't be legal to return fire unless it gets to the ridiculous. Like say an innocent bystander is in the way and you try to shoot through the bystander.

Possibly in circumstances such as you see the car rolling up or stopping at the curb and you fire as the shooter if firing or preparing to fire at you or others. As others have posted, definitely problematic if you shoot as the shooter speeds off.

                    very complicated situation
it comes down to what the assailants were doing When You Start Shooting.
                    1. If they had already stopped and were speeding away, you would have a terrible time trying to argue it’s self defense, since your life was no longer in danger.
                    2. If they were shooting at you and you had a clear line of fire, you’d have a good defense.
                    3. If they were shooting at you and there were bystanders in between, you returned fire but did NOT hit any bystander, DA might try to charge you with some negligence or reckless endangerment. but still, your self defense shield will likely triumph. However, if you DID hit a bystander, that’d now be a real legal fight.
I'd rather explain to a jury why I shot than have someone explain to my loved ones why I didn't
