If it was built from an 80%, the CA DOJ has no way of knowing if it was ever a long gun, unless it was registered as a long gun at some point.

No where did he say anything about a long gun, not sure where you would get that idea from the OP? Either you're making wild guesses, haven't been paying attention, or both; this isn't the first report of confiscations of 80% builds.

Sorry if I missed the answer already - Did they have a warrant - did they show it to you?

And can you confirm that you did not try to register these as assault weapon, you were only trying to register them as non-AW pistols? And did your photos clearly show a magazine lock?

That looks like the problem if they are interpreting the laws to disallow conversion after SSE ended. Lawyer up.

Did you write down names of the officers? Name of Judge that signed the warrant?

1) when did this happen
2) what city or county do you live in
3) did you submit photos to DOJ
4) did you try to register the pistols as Semi auto
5) how many did they take
6) did they search your house or allow you to retrieve only the items they wanted
7) did they say they had a warrant

I think the issue is SSE and also the fixed mag. That’s the reason why I would never use the Franklin DFM. Yes, you’re compliant when the DFM is installed but anyone can easily take it out. Therefore, making it an assault weapon by definition.

The same could be said about any compliance device. A grip fin for example, or any of the mag lock devices. You are fooling yourself if you think any compliance device is on more solid legal ground compared to a DFM. In fact the DFM seems like one of if not the most compliant of them all when compared to the letter of the law.
