    Break action pistol barrel length?

    Hello,
What is the legal limit on barrel length of a break action pistol, particularly the encore/contender pistol by Thompson center. Can I have a 20" barrel with pistol grip or has to be under 16" Appreciate all the help. Thank you

In order to meet the single-shot pistol exemption to CA unsafe handgun laws, the pistol must have a minimum 6" barrel length and a minimum 10.5" overall length. [PC 32100(b)]

In order for a firearm to be considered a "handgun", it needs a barrel length of less than 16". [PC 16530(a)]

If you install a 16" or greater length barrel on a "handgun", then you will be making it into a "long gun".
^The firearm will then be subject to CA laws pertaining to "long guns", rifles, and short barrel rifles.

So what is this considered? It has an 18" barrel and is sold in CA.

          Long gun.

(post-2014) CA DROS will force it into the "long gun, rifle" category.

Need to be 21 or older to acquire, because, under Federal laws, it's a Title 1 Other.

Thanks, does that mean that one could attach a skeleton stock on it if they wanted to?

Needs to look into this more...

CA DROS should be rejecting barrel length of 16" or greater for the "handgun" category.
So, it would force this Title 1 Other into the "long gun, rifle" category.
But, if it does then the firearm should get popped as a CA SBR due to it's overall length being less than 26".

Perhaps, because it has to be entered in CA DROS using the single-action revolver exemption, it's barrel length doesn't get rejected for the "handgun" category.
So, it gets CA DROS as "handgun, revolver" category.

              hmmm...

This be another example of how Title 1 Other firearms do not interface well with the CA DROS system.
