Get a fixed mag device. Better than A bullet button. -
Are you asking about voluntary registration or Assault Weapon registration for SB880?
As AW registration deadline has passed, you will not be able to go that route.
Your AR pistol, if semiauto will need to have a fixed mag that requires the action to be disassembled in order to release the magazine.
You will need to request a serial number for your home build from the CA DOJ using form BOF 1008.
You will need to have this serial number along with other ATF required markings engraved within 10 days of receipt of the serial number.

Yes engraving must have your name, city, state,& caliber and serial number . Been many posts on this and had to be done before 7/1/2018 or you must apply for serial number.Comment

Is it an outright rejection or an Incomplete Notice? The latter gives you an opportunity to correct it still. We tend to confuse the two.
If an Incomplete, you may still be able to engrave it and resubmit.sigpic

I had a few difficulties with engravers because they felt that the FMBUS number identified it as an AW (even prior to registration) and they could not do it without me being on-site. I looked up the requirements from CADOJ and it clearly states that engraving MAY be done at FFL07.
"Upon receipt of your serial number(s), you may contact a Federal Firearms Licensed Manufacturer (type 07) to have your Department issued serial number applied in a manner consistent with the requirements outlined in the California Code of Regulations, title 11, section 5474.2"Comment

I am surprised the company doing the engraving did not tell you about the Name/City/State requirement. Must not have been an engraver that works with firearms much.

Mine was built and engraved with name, town, caliber and s/n number years ago before all this registration crap. I knew it would be needed for at least ID purposes. A Franklin DFM mag was all I did for it.
Having been born here I could smell this stuff coming from years away.Comment
