"Talk to my Lawyer", "I have to Talk to my Lawyer." What Lawyer?

So it is a good Idea in the event of you heaving to use your firearm in self defense to say very little to law enforcement until you have first consulted your lawyer.

But, how many of you guys actually have a Guy, have a Lawyer?

Do any of you have a Lawyer on retainer or anything like That?

I sure don't. So what do you do? Hit the yellow pages after a shooting?

What kind of legal set up do some of you have or what is your plan of action post shooting? Everyone says talk to a lawyer, but what lawyer?

I was wondering if I should do my research now and find a few lawyers I think would be a good go phone call in that event. Or should I shop around and try to get one on retainer? or do you guys just maybe depend on your NRA or other CCW organization membership as your contact?

I would love to just have "A Guy" I could just pick up the phone and say, "hey, Bill, its me, I need you to come over to my place tonight, I have been involved in a self defense shooting" "No problem Jed, Ill be right over" or have my lawyers card and be able to just hand that to the officers and tell them to speak to my lawyer.

But I am not a rich dude.

Just curious how you guys prepare before hand for any future legal issues or if you don't.

Confused by all the "concealed carry insurance" out there? I cover all tiers of USCCA membership, coverage limits, and a secret bonus.
In case it wasn't obvious, nothing I write here should be interpreted as legal advice.

I keep a lawyer on retainer all the time , if something come up , I call . If they can't handle the problem they refer me to someone that can .
I can call 24/7/365.25 and get help , doesn't matter what the problem is my 1 phone call is there . If they can't help long term , at least I don't sit and wait until someone that can does show up . 1 call and done , no questions asked , answered , and sent out on my way. Until I talk with an expert .

I have CCW Safe so I have a lawyer available 24/7/365 in the event I must use deadly force to defend myself. I don't have the "funding" to have my own private lawyer.

USCCA and CCW Safe here. I may drop one next time around but may keep them both.

Never talk to leos always say I wnt a lawyer. We are allowed to lie to you and bait you and use any legal leo tactic. The minute you say I want a lawyer no LEo can continue questioning yo.

Find a lawyer who says he’ll show up if called. Any decent attorney knows to tell you to shut up, tell the police to get off your back, that you will be available for future questioning, must wait for further legal counsel from their boss, and invoke attorney client privileges. It shouldn’t cost you a thing. If you spend a night in custody, who cares, you’re alive. Just remember, keep your mouth shut.

Out of curiosity, why? Seems like having two car insurance policies on the same vehicle.

My suggestion to add to those above.....

Speak to your local PD.... Try to look for the officer who works with the POA - Peace Officers Association....

When you find the right person inquire about what law firm / lawyer they have hired to defend an officer in a shooting?

You can speak to that law firm now... most will offer a 1 hour consultation for either free or a nominal fee- $100-$300

Law firms that defend Police tend to have a good rapport with the DA....

So if you google LAPD Shooting-

                            You find stories like this

A veteran Los Angeles police officer violated department rules for using deadly force last year when he shot and killed a 70-year-old man holding a pipe in downtown L.A., an oversight panel determined.

Larry Hanna, an attorney representing Garcia, said he believed the officers acted appropriately to safeguard bystanders in the area. They first used a Taser to try to subdue Mendez, he said. Mendez, he added, had swung a long metal pipe at others, and the officers believed he continued to pose a threat.

                            --

                            then go here

                            Maybe one of these two

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

There are two rights being confused. One is the right to remain silent and the other is the right to an attorney. Some argue that there is no right to remain silent unless you are in custody (under arrest). They can save that argument for court. Just be certain that you couple your exercise of the right to remain silent with your Fourth Amendment right else a good prosecutor can try to convince the ultimate trier of fact that your silence was an admission. You do not have to say that you have nothing to say until you speak with "your" attorney, but just that you have noting to say until you see an attorney. It is nobody's business that you have one on retainer, because given that knowledge one could argue that you kept an attorney on retainer because you knew you would need one. This is not legal advice.
