    Family transfer of evil weapons

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with using the family transfer to pass an AR down. The weapon in question is factory stock with no mods and has already had the bullet button delete installed, so it is compliant. My concern is that conducting a transfer for this type of weapon so close to the reporting deadline will raise questions.

Just curious if anyone has had trouble with this. Thanks,

P.S. It is still surreal to me that I even have to ask this question. Like I'm up to no good or something.

Walk us through the part where you think it is compliant. I think you missed something.

you sound like a candidate for going to jail just because you tried to comply with the law and ended up an easy mark for some prosecutor and DOJ. Seriously go back and read your imaginary options under the new law. are you featureless? how do you know? the DOJ does not care that you have not made changes and tried to be a law bidding citizen. Check with a gun store to see how many violations a stock AR of your kind has under the law now even though it was legal when you bought it. This is what everyone is complaining about because when do they change the rules again or just take it. And do you want to transfer it to a family member so they replace you in jail for now owning it. Good luck

        From: https://www.oag.ca.gov/firearms/bull...assault-weapon

What is considered an “assault weapon”?
Pursuant to Assembly Bill 1135 (Stats. 2016, ch. 40) and Senate Bill 880 (Stats. 2016, ch. 48) effective January 1, 2017, the definition of “assault weapon” is revised to mean the following:
        RIFLES
A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:
A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
        A thumbhole stock.
        A folding or telescoping stock.
A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
        A flash suppressor.
        A forward pistol grip.

Again, as I stated originally, I installed the bullet button delete kit and must open the action to reload, so now I have a fixed magazine. Therefore according to what I've read, I do not have to register the gun as an assault weapon. I can see from reading on here that many of those that end up in trouble are due to stupidity like lying on their paperwork. And these are the cases that make the rest of us look bad when it hits the news.

I assume my OP must have been poorly worded, because warbird seems to think I'm some kind of simpleton. The law, and the enforcement of it, is rife with traps and backdoors. So I was simply asking if transferring an AR to a family member ahead of the deadline might throw up some type of retarded red flag for the brownshirts. There are plenty of bad stories on here (and I'm sure some BS too) so maybe someone has run into this before.

My bad for coming here for advice. And BTW, most gun stores/LEO/DOJ "help" numbers will give you no direction at all, which is why I was reaching out to the CG community.

I think if you stated what compliance part you bought it might simply things. The new compliance devices have been talked to death here which is good for information. As long as your rifle is fixed magazine then you shouldn’t have an issue. I think wording it as a “bullet button delete kit” is throwing some.

And since you brought it up who are you passing this down to? Are they are CA resident or out of state? Are you doing it as a intrafamilial transfer or PPT?

i apologize if I gave you that impression friend. you are like a lot of other honest people who have come on here hoping not to do something they thought was right but are now facing felony raps and five years in a prison with Bubba. the only stupid person is the person who does not ask questions and you are asking questions and that is going to hopefully save you from making a life changing mistake. every situation is different and lord knows when you finally deal with DOJ everyone one of them is probably going to give you a different answer. I don't know the answers and i don't want to feel responsible for sending you care packages for five years due to mistaken advice on my part. We need to keep anyone and everyone out of jail if all they are trying to do is follow the law. again i never assumed anything about your I.Q. and never would.

Go ahead and google "bullet button delete kit".

Now show us on this Tony Gwynn bobble head doll how close what you said comes to what you mean.

                  Poorly worded OP.

You're really asking 2 or 3 questions. Let's separate them out.

                  1) Can I transfer a firearm that is NOT an "assault weapon" (so called).
                  A) Yes. (Of course it's subject to all transfer laws)

                  2) Is my firearm compliant?
                  A) We don't have enough details. You need to be sure of this.

                  3) Deadline?
                  A) If your firearm is NOT an "assault weapon" (so called), there is no deadline for a transfer.

IANAL and TKM wins 500 internet points, well done.

Fair enough, my OP was poorly worded. I should have included more details but sharing on social media can sometimes be sketchy. My dad installed the AR Maglock and is now passing the weapon down to me using the interfamilial transfer form on CFARS. It still has all the features of a "normal" AR but now has a fixed magazine. I've read the law and I am 100% sure the weapon is now compliant. We are both in CA, he just doesn't want to deal with it. I'm still young and have some fight left in me. Ha

I only asked the question because having experience working for a very large state agency that specializes in tracking people down, I know how it turns out when the State of CA decides use it's full force and go after people. They have a long and well documented record of going after folks like myself that are unsuspecting, just to score political points. I do not want to find myself in that crowd and give them a reason to come looking for me. My career depends on my not having a criminal background, so I have a lot to lose. However like you all I will continue to exercise my 2A rights and pay no mind to the fear tactics. After all look at the DOJ page. It is purposely designed to look scary.

Welcome to the California DOJ Bureau of Firearms The Bureau of Firearms serves the people of California through education, regulation, and enforcement actions regarding the manufacture, sales, ownership, safety training, and transfer of firearms. Bureau of Firearms staff will be leaders in providing firearms expertise and information to law enforcement, legislators, and the general public in a comprehensive program to promote legitimate and responsible firearms possession and use by California residents. ATTENTION Ammunition Purchase Laws Are Still in Effect — Rhode, et al. v. Bonta, No.

My frustration is not with you all, it's because it's beyond belief that something I've been doing since I was a little kid is being criminalized. I can remember parking my truck in the school parking lot with the shotgun in the back window, doors unlocked, after going dove hunting in the morning. One time the principal asked (not told) me if I could "please park my truck off school property on the days that I will have my gun with me"!

Sorry for the screed so early in the morning. Happy Friday! Thanks all
