Shipping Guns & Ammo to myself?

So I am taking a trip to New Hampshire this summer and I plan to do a lot of target shooting with friends.

I looked into mailing the gun & ammunition to myself Instead of dealing with expense and hassle of checking with the airline.

Apparently its legal per Federal law as long as I address everything in my name, in the care of my destination.

My concern is getting it back into California. Am I going to be breaking any laws by doing the reverse shipment? Can I send unspent ammunition back to myself?

You have to ship ammo to a licensed ammo vendor and pick it up from them, unless you have a 03ffl + coe.

So this applies to ammunition I already bought legally in CA? I am just looking to ship whatever I don't shoot back to myself.

If you can provide proof that the ammo was legally acquired in California, then it's probably ok if you bring it back yourself. I don't know about shipping since it's not in your control while in transit.

Others more knowledgeable than I will probably shed some light here.
