    Moving back, need some guidance

    Hello everyone,
So I'm moving back to California from a freer state where I got to experience all the fun things including standard round magazines.

I have a couple of questions that I've already done some research on but just wanted to see if I'm missing anything careless.

I'll break it down by guns.

    AR9/AR15 Pistols
I'm more than likely going to get rid of these guns before I move back, but just to be clear:
    • Can't be made featureless
    • Must change to fixed magazine
    • Register as assault weapon?

    Remington 870 Express
Only change here I made was adding Magpul furniture, but that should be fine.

    AR15 Rifle
I'm turning this into a featureless rifle, so that means:
    • Remove the Birdcage flash hider for muzzlebreak
    • Get a featureless stock, aka Hera (This removes pistol grip)

    Pistols
I have a few off roster pistols so file the new resident report for pistols.

And obviously get rid of all magazines over 10 rounds.

Am I missing anything glaring or does that seem about right? Thanks for the help everyone.

if you took your weapons out of state and DOJ knows it then you probably have to comply with the new rules and registration. State DOJ's goal is to get the weapons out of state and keep them out. I might buy a house in Nevada in the future but I am not going to let DOJ make me start over again in any way if there is any chance of moving back to the state for some insane reason. Especially if i have real estate here the whole time. you might invest a few hundred in talking to a lawyer who specializes in gun issues and registration. Better safe than sorry.

TMK if you make it a fixed mag it is NOT an AW. Can keep the threaded barrel.

First post best post. There's work and opportunities in better places than here. I wouldn't wish a relocation to this state on anyone (yes, it's THAT bad). Go somewhere redder and help keep it that way-California is done.

Buy one of those "California Gun Laws" books, the latest edition. It's thick too so it will keep you entertained on the loo.

Buy a Sig 220 10mm and a CZ RAMI BD (decocker model). Go to the range once , decide you hate them, then PM me.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Talk to Messerschmitts. He's a Pshrink. He can help sort out why you are doing such a crazy thing

You are not eligible to register firearms as assault weapons.

Everything needs to be made CA legal prior to entering CA.
^AR pistols with fixed magazine and AR rifle being featureless.

After you establish residency in CA (obtain a CA DL/ID), you have 60 days to register all the firearms you brought to CA.
^You can accomplish this by mailing in a completed New Resident Firearm Ownership Report to CA DOJ BOF or submitting a report online via CRIS.

Don't we get to tease the OP about "crawling back" to CA.?

Gotcha, I'll make sure to make everything CA legal.

Thanks everyone for their advice! I know there's a lot of "don't move back" comments, but unfortunately it needs to be done. I'm going to miss the freedoms offered by other states, but at this point in time guns are taking a backseat to my other responsibilities.

Are you certain that you will be considered a new resident and not someone that has remained a Cali resident while out of the state? I am not going to get into how to try and tell the difference. You can use the search function, but you may be considered to have always been a CA resident if you were out of state for college or in the armed forces. Even if you were out of state temporarily for work. Had you severed any and all ties with CA?

Hm, so I have most of my life moved here (Not CA). This was supposed to be a permanent residency. I do have ties in CA, but judging by some quick research, I've done everything to prove that I'm a resident of the other state.
