Question on selling firearms after moving to CA

    Hi everyone,

My work is relocating me to San Diego and I will be moving in a few weeks. I know about the ten round limit so I am leaving all my magazines behind. The move was not entirely covered by my employer so I might consider selling a few firearms after moving to cover some expenses. I know I need to register them first with DOJ and go through a FFL; but besides that is there anything I need to do before sell any.

    Thanks

In fact you do NOT need to register them before selling; you can either register or sell and obey the law.

    Penal Code 27560:
    (a) Within 60 days of bringing a handgun, and commencing January 1, 2014, any firearm, into this state, a personal firearm importer shall do one of the following:

    (1) Forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the Department of Justice, a report prescribed by the department including information concerning that individual and a description of the firearm in question.

    (2) Sell or transfer the firearm in accordance with the provisions of Section 27545 or in accordance with the provisions of an exemption from Section 27545.

    (3) Sell or transfer the firearm to a dealer licensed pursuant to Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive.

    (4) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police department.
You would need your CA Driver License or ID to make that work.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
