CAlifornia registration - Can I register and photo just lowers?

Been looking for nearly an hour and not finding an answer. Apologies if this is a duplicate. I tried!

I would like to register some of my AR lowers as bullet button AW's without any uppers listed (overall length and the pics). Is this doable? I find conflicting info on the web. I am always juggling uppers with lowers now my 80%'s all moved to Utah...

    Appreciate any answers.

Are referring to assault weapons? The answer is no.

No. Remember you are registering your "Bullet button assault weapon" as a centerfire semiautomatic rifle. It can't be a one unless it actually is one. Thus it needs the upper when you register.

My only real fear here is how will that work if I have to use the same upper for say three lowers? Am I now guilty of perjury when I change uppers again for range trips? example: I sometime use a fixed "rifle" stock lower for my 300BLK upper and others a carbine adjustable stock equipped lower. Would I be in violation when I switch between the two lowers?

        Maybe just me being paranoid...

Your getting very technical in a public forum. "Technically" You cannot build a BB long gun in 2018. They should of already been built. But if you already had a BB on your 3 lowers. Your good to go for reg.

I don't think the OP inferred building new BB lowers. I think he was wondering about the repercussions of switching his upper between his fixed mag lower vs his bullet button soon to be registered lower.

Apologies for not being clear. I am not making anything. All lowers are older make pre-registration lowers I have had built and in use for a long time.

Creampuff has it exactly as I meant it. Just swapping uppers between fixed mag lowers and running afoul of registration paperwork for overall length, etc. no longer matching.

I need to take a look at the registration superthread to find out the answer to your original question. I suspect the DOJ did not give much guidance and our conclusion is based on our interpretation of their vagueness.

I can tell you my registration paperwork came back, with no information regarding the upper, just the information on the lower. Plus my caliber is listed as 8888 - which is "firearm with interchangeable barrels"

I have a feeling that the DOJ had not considered the issue, or willfully ignored it, that people swap uppers or modify their uppers when the whim strikes them. As written, the regs seem to require than you make no changes, which is of course utter stupidity. The law should have been written to just register the lowers.

The regs only say you can't get rid of or modify the bullet button. There is absolutely no mention of not being able to switch uppers or even calibers even if you register it in a specific caliber or barrel length.

                    Check page 14.
