transporting ammo into California

I can't find any info regarding moving my ammo with me
into California. Tons about firearms, but not ammo.
I'm not a resident, but moving there. Will be a resident
60 days after I arrive.
Is there a quantity limitation or other issues?

My understanding is that you can no longer bring ammo into California, it's a misdemeanor, transport across state lines

Ammo importation in excess of 50 rounds is prohibited, unless you ship it to an ammunition vendor licensee or FFL in CA, and then pick it up in person.
Probably, shipping and FFL fees are going to kill it for you.

Another option is to move to CA first, get C&R and COE. Then, you can make a trip back to the storage and import as much ammo as you want

The new ammo laws in CA do not apply to you because you are not a resident of this state. There is no law that restricts or limits a non-resident from moving to CA with their ammo.

I suggest you stock-up on as much ammo as possible before you move to this communist state.

The new law only applies to CA residents. As when you are moving you are not a resident, I would think you could bring all the ammo you would like. It would be your one time free pass.

30314. (a) Commencing January 1, 2018, a resident of
this state shall not bring or transport into this state any
ammunition that he or she purchased or otherwise obtained
from outside of this state unless he or she first has that
ammunition delivered to a licensed ammunition vendor for
delivery to that resident pursuant to the procedures set
forth in Section 30312.

Just like all your non-roster firearms, you can bring everything with you except for the standard capacity magazines. All have to be blocked to 10 rounds. My advice is to buy as many guns and ammo as you can because once you are a resident of CA, your options will be drastically limited.

Wrong. Prop 63 overwrote what was in the bill that you are referencing. That 50 round limit is not in the law.

First time violating= infraction.
Second or more times violating = infraction/misdemeanor wobbler (treated as a misdemeanor by LEOs but DAs' Office can knock it down to infraction if they feel like it).

Can not legally bring restricted ammunition to CA.
^No explosive, flechette, handgun AP, incendiary, and tracer ammo.

Interesting post. I am a California resident and have some of varying types, 22lr, 22mag, 17hmr, 380 and 9mm. All of which were purchased legally in California. I now have a home in Oregon as well and will occasionally take ammo to Oregon and return to California each year for winter. So am I violation the law by bring my ammo into California when I return from Oregon? Don't mean to hijack the thread. Others may be in my situation. I will remain a California resident for some time due to real estate issues.

If you bought the ammo in CA then you are not importing ammo into the state. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but you should be fine bringing back ammo that you originally took with you out state.
