Inherited Handgun, past 30 days from taking receipt

So I inherited my father's long guns when he died about a year ago. We used to go shooting often, but I haven't wanted to go since then for obvious reasons.

I finally got his old range bag out to make his AR15 featureless, and I found a pistol in a side pocket that I didn't know he had. I am sure he bought it legally through an FFL, and I would like to register it for myself to be legally compliant.

Since I have technically been in possession of this pistol for over 30 days (well over) what are my options? Can I just file the form and pay the fee? I assume I would have to use his date of death as the date it passed to me, but that will be well outside 30 days.

    Thanks in advance!

Just file the form and give them their ransom. That's all they are really worried about.

      Thank you!

Just had a thought, I haven't actually purchased a handgun since probably 2012. My HSC is expired by now I assume, so I will have to go take the test again won't I?

Yes, afraid so. New card, now FSC not HSC, new fee, and take the test.

My Father passed on ALL of his weapons in 1991 well before he passed on. And well before registration was required in this state.
God, I miss that man. He could shoot! He was a gunner on Quad 13 on the BB55.
