This happens all the time due to problems at the DOJ. Sometimes it approves DROS in the 30 day period but it often does not make a decision to approve or disapprove. If no decision is made in those 30 days, the status of your DROS is changed to "undetermined". Some dealers will release the gun to an undetermined and some will not. The ones who do not will often keep a restocking fee. Whether or not they have to deliver or may cancel and keep a restocking fee depends on the contract you entered into when you bought the gun. You may want to ask your dealer what it does if you become an undetermined.

As for contacting the DOJ, forget it. If it ends up denying the sale it will send you a letter explaining the hoops you can jump through if you dispute its reasons for the denial.

After posting I saw what Trickster linked to. That looks pretty good. I know I had not trouble Drosing two firearms before 2013, but when I bought one in 2015 I went to undetermined. I never bothered to learn how since my dealer delivers to undetrmineds (Rifle Gear). I suspect it may have been an ancient juvenile arrest with charges that were dismissed. If the DOJ requested info on the determination, I doubt any records could even be located. Good luck.

        Yes, do this.

After 30 days if the DOJ is unable/too lazy to verify that you are not a prohibited person, the DROS status will flip from "DELAYED" to "UNDETERMINED".

Once it hit "UNDETERMINED" the DOJ is finished and there will be no change to your DROS. At this point it is up to the sole discretion of the FFL whether or not to release the firearm to you. Legally he may do so.

Some FFLs will release and some will not. Since your record is "spotless" I have no further advice for you.

          Good Stuff ^^^^

I recommend a different type of livescan than the link in your post, but a wealth of information to get you going in the right direction there.

Well got a call from the FFL today, the day I was to pick up my XD...

I was approved. Why would they put a delay on before the 10 days are up? That makes no damn sense

Is there a chance you have a fairly common name? You may have been confused with another John Smith, etc.

Congratulations on getting your new gun.
Make sure for the future you always go to a dealer that will release on undetermined.

What does sense have to do with the CA DOJ?

Because if the DOJ takes no action the dealer delivers the gun when the 10 day period is up. Because they put a delay on it because something in a data base doesn't indicate that you are a prohibited person, but that you may be and the DOJ wants additional time to clarify things. By placing the matter on delay the dealer has to wait the full 30 before they can deliver.
