You didn't break any laws. It was not illegal to try to register an AW with your own serial, DOJ simply decided they wouldn't approve such an app. But I don't believe you have anything to worry about legally-speaking.

Send in the form 1008, preferably by US postal certified mail, and hopefully you can get the serials mailed back and apply then before your 30 days are up. Have them engraved immediately, photo them, and update your app, and be sure to include your old self-issued serial number in the "other number" box of the app.

It will be interesting to see if DOJ cuts you some slack on this issue, but it certainly sounds promising that they didn't outright reject your app, and gave you instructions to fix it.

You need to start this process ASAP (like, tomorrow!) And also you should disassemble the gun(s) in question in case they do reject your app, so you aren't in possession of an unregistered AW.
Thanks for the help cockedandglocked. I submitted my application for DOJ serial
number both electronically and US postal (over nighted the Mail). Long story
short received one week later an email with 3 shiny new serial numbers for the
firearms in question. Had receivers engraved. Submitted photos of serial numbers to CFARS and now they show in progress. And have gotten two
Comfirmation letter on 2 of my 11 firearms submitted.

Also thanks to everyone else who offered up advise.
    Again thanks. 45Blazer

That's great news. Can you give us the serial numbers they issued you minus the last 2 digits. We just want to know how high the number is right now.

Well, duhh, they sat on my application for three months, and of course the submitted bills are now more than 3 months old

Fortunately, our electric bill is easily downloadable as .pdf and the upload without the last minute rush of June 30th was pleasantly fast.
I mean, that's bull**** and it's better to just comply... on the other hand, theoretically speaking... the regs say 3 months from application:

Utility Bill: Cable, electricity, garbage, gas, pipeline, propane, alarm/security, or water bill with purchaser's name on it and dated within three months of application for registration.
Your application date should be the date of submission, no? If you brought a a utility bill for a handgun transfer that was from exactly 3 months ago, and the background check took more than 1 day to process your DROS, would the utility bill then be expired by the time they checked it, cancel the DROS, and then start the process all over again? I highly doubt that would be the case, and they'd instead just process it from the date the DROS was submitted.

how long do you have to make corrections? I got my registration kicked back because I didn't click a few features (second handgrip) and my spouse proof of residency wasn't valid (my fault I used her DL rather than registration). I just saw the email, i had to use an email address I rarely check and we just had a new baby. It got sent to me july 27th

You have 30 days after they send you the notice. So that would put your deadline at like August 26th. I'd try to do it a few days before then if you can. Congrats on the new baby!
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

A friend submitted a handful of ARs in the early part of June. All quiet until Tuesday of last week when 1 email came thru for one of the ARs. Since then nothing. Seems strange to me.

Also, anyone else have trouble accessing this thread thru Tapatalk? I can't get it open this thread but no problem with any other threads on Calguns.net.

Same here. I think it's just too long to load. I've been checking in on Chrome.

Yep, prettty much right when the thread hit 4,000 posts, I stopped being able to open it in tapatalk. Have the same issues opening some other "megathreads", I think tapatalk and/or the calguns server has issues loading that many posts into tapatalk.

Still open fine in a normal browser, though.

Within tapatalk, there's an option at the top-right of the screen to view the thread in a browser - that's what I've been doing.

AR pistol kicked back due to bullet button

Anyone get kickbacks on ar pistols citing bullet button when they had checked second handgrip? A search on this thread showed someone got dinged for bullet button when they had not selected the second handgrip option... I got a kickback with this message:

"Based on the photos you provided, there is an additional characteristic shown on your firearm that was not marked on the application. Please refer to California Code of Regulations, title 11, section 5471 for more information: https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/regs/text-adopted-regulations-bullet-button.pdf"

I obviously chose "Non Fixed Magazine (Bullet Button)" as magazine type, and I had ticked Second Handgrip, Shroud, and detachable magazine outside pistol grip options... I'm wondering if I should use the report issue feature? Any help is appreciated!

Does it have a muzzle device or threaded barrel? if it has a muzzle device you missed threaded barrel.
