How does DROS NICS background check work?

I want to buy a gun but I have some embarrassing misdemeanors in my past (nothing that would make it illegal to own a gun) that I don't want my local gun dealer to know about lol. When he runs the background checks will he get a full background check on me or will he just get a yes or no from California DOJ / US DOJ? Thanks I'm sure this question has been asked before but couldn't find it in the search.

EDIT: I meant NICS not NCIS (TV show had me confused).

Your answer is "yes or no". DOJ does not give any specifics. Unless it is a denial for "felony".

I don't even think they provide that much to the FFL.
        Just "Release", "Delay", or "Denied"
They only release the reason for denial to the denied person by written request.
