    Residency Issues

Hey all, I'm about to turn 21 and I had a few questions about residency in regards to CCW.

My driver's license/car registration says my address is in Sacramento, which is where my parent's house is. I'm currently in Irvine for school. I go back home every break.

A few months ago I received a jury summons for Sacramento County. I responded to by saying I was not a resident of Sacramento County anymore, which would disqualify me from serving on a jury. Last month I received a jury summons for Orange County which I postponed due to school.

So here are the questions I have:

From what I gathered, I should be okay purchasing a handgun with my DL/car registration since they have the same address which is still a "permanent address". Is this correct?

I plan to apply for a CCW in the near future. Would I apply in Sacramento or Orange County for the CCW?

    Thanks in advance!

You woudl need to decide where your residence is. That would be the address you would use.

Residence is, generally, a matter of fact not of preference or opinion.

Where do you sleep 183 nights of the year?

I understand that there are exceptions for specific things (staying on your parents health insurance perhaps) but these are spelled out.

I live and go to school in Irvine for 9 months of the year, so I take it that I should apply for an OC CCW.

I understand that, but I remember reading that the ATF put out a letter saying that while you are in college in a state, you are a resident of that state, but when you go home, you are a resident back home. Just wondering if would affect my situation.

Will I run into any trouble purchasing a firearm with my DL/car registration?

Probably best to call the IA's in both counties and ask them.

More important, when you graduate make sure you move to a CCW friendly county. Having a CCW while is College is problematic since you can't carry on campus. IMHO probably best to wait til after graduation

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

If you intend to return to Sacramento upon graduation, you would seem to be a permanent resident of that county, while a temporary resident of Orange County. Whether Orange County issues to temporary residents is a question you might put to its Sheriff's Department before entering the application process.

There is an important point for you to consider. Should you move out of the issuing county, your license is voided after a short period. I believe it is 30 days but check.

If you believe that Sacramento will issue to you, I vote for applying there.
