    transferring guns

2 different scenarios. The first one is transferring a receiver within my family. My dad has transferred an ar15 lower receiver to me and I filled out the document and sent it in already. (There was no place that made my dad sign or confirm that he was transferring it which was weird to me.) I am just wondering if I will eventually get a letter back confirming that as of a certain date, the firearm is now registered under my name.

the second thing I am wondering is the transfer of a firearm that is pre 1968 (no serial number). My grandfather gave me a bolt action .22 a few years back. since there is no serial number, is a transfer necessary in order to be within the law? thanks for the help.

    1) Yes, eventually you get a letter.

    2) Before 2014, no need to document an intrafamilial long gun transfer. If 'a few years back' is 2013 or earlier, no worries.

I believe 'no serial' entered in the correct box on the form will suffice; perhaps there is a different 'magic text' DOJ prefers.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
