    "Brass Knuckle" legality and EDC

Mr Blue Line, Penal Code section 21810 makes metal illegal, loophole was then closed with 21710 to cover composite and wood.

Never gave much thought into knuckles for EDC. What are the laws in CA concerning carrying knuckles? My current EDC consists of a Fenix light and a Benchmade folder. I read an article of some type of plastic knuckles being made that weren't technically a brawling device. I have also seen those smaller ones that fit over two knuckles. Was deciding between standalone fullsize or smaller double knuckles on a keychain off a front belt loop. Anyone running the smaller knuckles?

Anything in regards to a type of rings available?
      Under CA laws...

It is illegal to make, import, transfer, and possess metal, composite (plastic), and wood knuckles. [PC 21710 & 21810]
      Composite/wood knuckles = misdemeanor [PC 21710]
Metal knuckles = felony [PC 21810]

      Penal Code 16405
As used in this part, “composite knuckles” means any device or instrument made wholly or partially of composite materials, other than a medically prescribed prosthetic, that is not metal knuckles, that is worn for purposes of offense or defense in or on the hand, and that either protects the wearer’s hand while striking a blow or increases the force of impact from the blow or injury to the individual receiving the blow.

      Penal Code 16920
As used in this part, “metal knuckles” means any device or instrument made wholly or partially of metal that is worn for purposes of offense or defense in or on the hand and that either protects the wearer’s hand while striking a blow or increases the force of impact from the blow or injury to the individual receiving the blow. The metal contained in the device may help support the hand or fist, provide a shield to protect it, or consist of projections or studs which would contact the individual receiving a blow.

      Penal Code 21710
Any person in this state who possesses, commercially manufactures or causes to be commercially manufactured, or who knowingly imports into the state for commercial sale, keeps for commercial sale, or offers or exposes for commercial sale, any composite knuckles or hard wooden knuckles is guilty of a misdemeanor.

      Penal Code 21810
Except as provided in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, any person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, lends, or possesses any metal knuckles is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170.

      Penal Code 21890
Except as provided in Chapter 1 (commencing with Section 17700) of Division 2 of Title 2, metal knuckles are a nuisance and are subject to Section 18010.

      Penal Code 18010
      (a) The Attorney General, district attorney, or city attorney may bring an action to enjoin the manufacture of, importation of, keeping for sale of, offering or exposing for sale, giving, lending, or possession of, any item that constitutes a nuisance under any of the following provisions:
      (9) Section 21890, relating to metal knuckles.
      (b) These weapons shall be subject to confiscation and summary destruction whenever found within the state.
      (c) These weapons shall be destroyed in the same manner described in Section 18005, except that upon the certification of a judge or of the district attorney that the ends of justice will be served thereby, the weapon shall be preserved until the necessity for its use ceases.

Just about anything you carry with intent as use as a weapon is illegal.
