    AR15 and Cali laws?

I have been out of the loop for a while, and just word of mouth was told the AR15 is now illegal in Cali and the bullet button does nothing to make the rifle legal. So here's my question:

My ar15 is the legal minimum length, has a blocked 10rnd mag, BB installed. can I go shoot it at the local range?

if the bullet button is useless and the rifle is now a evil black rifle can I just remove the BB, put the old mag release back in and keep it in the safe..? I wouldn't dare to show up to the range without a bb installed. last thing I want is legal issues just want to enjoy my rifle that I built from the ground up.

I left Cali for about a year, have a new born son. been busy haven't had much time to sit on my *** and stroke the keyboard. I just want to know what the current (December 2016) laws or pertaining to AR15s.

I'm not really going to remove the bb, tho it would be nice to have the rifle how it's ment to be, I have lived this long with it so it doesn't matter to me. Cali so is so strict you can't piss without a camera up your ***.

Starting 01-01-2017, semi-auto centerfire rifles with "bullet button" style maglocks and semi-auto pistols with "bullet button" style maglocks will be considered assault weapons and it will be illegal to import, make, transfer, or transport them in CA.

Affected firearms will be eligible to register as an assault weapon during the 2017 assault weapons registration window.
If not registered as assault weapons, affected firearms must be made compliant (featureless or fixed magazine) or surrendered to law enforcement for destruction.

If you do nothing, then, starting 01-01-2017, it will be illegal to transport it and, starting 01-01-2017, it will be illegal to possess it.

So where does one register a 2016 compliant AW? and are there other permits that are required?

          It will be online.

CA DOJ BOF has not yet released the procedure for the 2017 assault weapons registrations and has not made their registration website active to the public.

They are not required to do so until after 12-31-2016.

Thank you, wouldn't registering it just pretty much be throwing your self under the bus? I mean, my. policy has been don't ask don't tell. ya know? maybe a lot of you may find that funny or something... and I see it's a no win situation. either put your self on the list or reap.... sounds like nazi Germany. so registration is online, good to know, sounds easy enough.

putting my self on the list just allows the man to come I to my home and take em like what happened in Australia. statewide ban, maybe moving back here was a bad idea.

A statewide confiscation has not happened to RAW for decades. It is unlikely now just as then. But that said: if you bought the gun or moved it to California prior to 2014 it is a good candidate for "featureless" to keep it with state having no knowledge of it other than "long gun". If you bought or moved it after 2014 then register it, since they already have you on a list as owning a semi-auto centerfire long gun. Buy a new featureless one next year and have both RAW and featureless. If you don't want on that list, sell it out of state now.

Please clarify. Are you saying that we cannot transport our unregistered AW's even if unloaded and in a locked container?

And I believe you meant to say that possession of an unregistered bullet button assault weapon will be illegal starting 01-01-18 (not 2017).

It will be illegal on Jan 1 2017.
The law grants an exemption until 1/1/2018 provided specific conditions are met.

The law does not grant a specific exemption for transportation, so it indeed DOES appear that unregistered AW will be home-bound.
