It will be great if it is only LEO that interpret the law the way they want. I have father, his English is shaky. The law says he can use translator for the test /whatever 30 question retarded test they require to pass before you purchase a firearm/. Several stores gave me different answers, from firm NO, to I /as his son/ can not translate to him, to translator has to have special license, to... And all this even after I showed them the law. And this stores suppose to be on our side... Sad.

I would get one or two small fire safes. They can be had for 20 to 30 bucks.
It meets the definition of a locked container.
Now I'm not saying to get them to prevent others from stealing as they are easy to break but in the case of a car fire if your hit your rounds won't go off at least for awhile.
I store my mags and rounds in these safes as I'm transporting from house to range etc.
They also fit most handguns.... Now a sw 500 won't fit but standard, compact and middle guns fit.Comment

True that....
I transport locked and unloaded (several handguns) using briefcases.
They can ride up front, on the seat or anywhere in my Honda CRV (No trunk)
The cases don't scream GUN and stopping at a hotel up the coast I can walk thru the lobby without issues.
I don't like the gun safe in the car idea. I don't want to leave my Glock 20 in the car. A briefcase solves this problem.
May the Bridges I burn light the way.

I have a Pelican 1170 case in which I put in my P01 (unloaded), with two magazines and my TLR-1 HR. It is locked with two padlocks and fits in the backpack I use to carry my laptop. For the range I have a CaseCruzer 5 pistol case which holds 16 magazines which is padlocked shut.

Sounds like we need a list if PDs who's policies encourage or permit their officers to make unlawful arrests. These would have to be publicly stated policies or actual arrest cases. Can't be the typical 'I was talking to someone' without naming names and jurisdictions so it could be verified.
It would be nice to have a quick reference that tells me that Northridge PD commonly arrests people for having ammo in the same bag as a firearm and or other perfectly legal actions.Comment

Regardless of what's legal, one must account for LEO ignorance of the laws (ironic huh?), and act accordingly to protect yourself and your livelihood from their unlawful acts, i.e., separate your guns and ammo into two separate locked containers while transporting in your vehicle.Comment

And yes, there have been arrests. I'm sure that once the city attorney gets the case it's dropped....i would hope. But the person arrested still spent time in jail, and had to arrange for bail.Comment

Locked Container for Handgun Tranportation
All you have to do is buy a small steel tool box that you can put a padlock on so you don't have to worry if plastic case, fabric case or a pistol rug with the zipper locked is OK. I have an old Craftsman steel tool box that will hold several handguns and I just put the handguns in a zipped up pistol rug and put those in the toolbox and lock it with a padlock. Problem solved.Comment
