Suppressor in California

These people have great prices, ask them your question. They'll get you all squared away -
The short answer, if you haven't figured it out from the posts above, is that there is absolutely no way for a regular CA citizen to legally possess a sound suppressor. Getting caught with one would result in an orange jumpsuit and 15 minutes a day in the exercise yard.Comment

Yes its legal to buy one from another person, as long as you have permission to buy one. Regular ATF tax stamps to individuals has to be approved by the State, and CA says , "No" to that for individuals. But corporations and business have other rules. You need to talk to a lawyer.Comment

WOW lots of FUD.
Some folks- LEO and .mil- can legally possess suppressors in CA. Some FFL and FFL/Manufacturers can own suppressors and other NfA items.
Audiophil2 seems to have a handle on that.
No, the ATF does not give a flying rats arse about you possessing a suppressor in CA. I know, because when I was thinking about actually moving to CA I called the ATF and told them I was thinking about moving to another state, they asked "Which one?", I replied "California", nd I could almost hear the guy trying not to laugh his *** off. He literally said "no your not, we are fine with you taking your NFA items anywhere, but CA has massive penalties for bringing your legally owned suppressor into the state."
But its not a federal offense and the atf does not care about local gun laws, only Federal ones.Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke
Call him run-like-hell-when-shtf-guy or dial-911-guy but NEVER call an unarmed man "Security".Comment

OP needs to find some friends in NV or AZ and spend an afternoon shooting rifles with a *"can" attached. The giggle factor wears off pretty quick.
*Legally owned and papered of course. All ATF, KFC, BMW, BFD rules apply.
30 rds from a semi auto AR makes the can too hot to touch. When you forget this fact the can will remind you without fail. Oven mitts are common kit in the range bags.
Suppressors are NOT movie quiet unless shooting subsonic ammo.
Standard (supersonic) ammo can be shot without ear pro depending on the can design, ammo and barrel length. (indoors needs ear pro w/ss ammo)
Common to see changes to POA/POI regarding accuracy.
Anyhoo. Cans in CA are never gonna be common use or available to citizens unless you're a "special" category of citizen like those mentioned.
Can't have noisy motorcycle/car exhaust but you have to have a noisy firearm.
California logic at it's most retarded. Maybe not most retarded but it's up there.Comment

With exemptions for:
*FFL/SOT to make, import, transport, possess, and transfer to a Gov/Mil/LE agency. [PC 33415(c)]
*a Gov/Mil/LE agency to acquire, transfer, and possess. [PC 33415(a)]
*an on-duty authorized Gov/Mil/LE officer to possess and use, while in performing within the course & scope of their duties. [PC 33415(b)]
There is no "Hollywood" (movie/tv) entertainment industry exemption to "silencers".
Penal Code 17210
As used in Chapter 9 (commencing with Section 33410) of Division 10 of Title 4, "silencer" means any device or attachment of any kind designed, used, or intended for use in silencing, diminishing, or muffling the report of a firearm. The term "silencer" also includes any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling a silencer or fabricating a silencer and any part intended only for use in assembly or fabrication of a silencer.
Penal Code 33410
Any person, firm, or corporation who within this state possesses a silencer is guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 or by a fine not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.
Penal Code 33415
Section 33410 shall not apply to, or affect, any of the following:
(a) The sale to, purchase by, or possession of silencers by agencies listed in Section 830.1, or the military or naval forces of this state or of the United States, for use in the discharge of their official duties.
(b) The possession of silencers by regular, salaried, full-time peace officers who are employed by an agency listed in Section 830.1, or by the military or naval forces of this state or of the United States, when on duty and when the use of silencers is authorized by the agency and is within the course and scope of their duties.
(c) The manufacture, possession, transportation, or sale or other transfer of silencers to an entity described in subdivision (a) by dealers or manufacturers registered under Chapter 53 (commencing with Section 5801) of Title 26 of the United States Code and the regulations issued pursuant thereto.Last edited by Quiet; 09-09-2016, 8:56 AM.sigpic

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.
