    Quick question re: Online purchase

Hi, I did a search and didn't see anything relevant to this question, so I hope I didn't miss anything, I hate being repetitive.

I'm in the process of shopping for a new handgun for myself and my gf who's getting her CCW soon. We found an online site that has both at good prices, so the question is, if I just put both in my shopping cart and pay, shipped to my local FFL, is that OK? Obviously the DROS paperwork for her handgun will be filled out by her, background check on her, etc...but the paid invoice would have my CC info on it. I don't see that particular scenario covered in the any of the 'straw man' discussions.

Oh, to be clear, she's paying me back, but that wouldn't be apparent looking at the paper trail. I've never purchased online before, do they even ask who its for before you check out?

And obviously the easiest thing to do is just have her go online and order it, but the fact that I can't find the answer easily, now I want to know.

    thx.

You'll bump into the 1-handgun-in 30 days problem.

    Easier all around to
first: be sure the handgun is on the CA Roster, and then, if it is
    second: each buys for himself/herself.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

One more thing to keep in mind is how much the dealer is going to charge for a transfer fee. Sometimes that good deal turns out to be not such a good deal when the fee's and taxes are all added in. Be sure if you go this route to shop around dealer's all seem to have different prices, average around me is $100.

I thought of that, but the actual paper work will be one dros for me, one dros for her....I'm not 'purchasing' two of anything, just paying up front. I guess its really a question of does the source of the funds matter?

Another scenario is we walk into a shop together....we both fill out our own applications completely separately for totally separate firearms, lets say $500 each.

When it comes time to pay, I put both on my credit card. Is that legal?

What if I pull out 1000 cash and give her $500 right there?

And Yes on CA Roster. And I agree with point 2, I'd really just like to know at this point for my own edification.

yeah, its that good of a deal. Plus there's usually a discount if they do more than 2 at a time....my ffl is 75 for the 1st, 40 for the second. I'm paying taxes no matter what.

Anyone can pay if it's an on roster, in state deal. The question of "who pays" relates to out of state purchases by a relative who would otherwise be permitted to gift an off roster gun. You can't provide the funding for such an out of state purchase.

Likely going to be required by the IA to put on the CCW anyway.

I can' t speak for an FFL's store policies. I can imagine some circumstances where either (1) or (2) would Raise Questions.

But IMVHO, either could easily be interpreted as a bona fide gift.

We live in a weird state; what might be legal is not necessarily what a dealer might want to explain to CA-DOJ. And what BATFE inspectors might do is another consideration.

Look into buying a gift card with the out of state seller for your gf. She then orders the gun for herself and pays with the gift card. You DO NOT buy it. If you do, you have the 1 in 30 days rule. You each do a separate DROS. Negotiate the price with the local FFL, less you may not save much buying out of state.

Or just call the seller and see how they handle it. Dealers get all nervous if someone other than the buyer pays for a gun, but I see nothing illegal in doing so. They just want to be sure that she is the real buyer.
