I am a permanent resident of Alabama and have a CCW permit. I go to Los Angeles for work 3-6 months a year. I do not want to become a resident of California. (Already did that for 20 years.) I would like to take my handgun to California for the purpose of keeping it in my temporary dwelling and taking to the range for practice. I know my Alabama CCW will not be recognized and will follow all lock box laws regarding transporting to and from range. All of the other info I have found relates to requiring registration within 60 days after becoming a RESIDENT. If I am not a resident, (a) do I need to register the gun and (b) is there a provision regarding registration for non-residents?

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

(b) No.
That said... CA considers you a resident of CA as soon as you gain employment in CA and will tax you for any income you make while in CA.sigpic
