Filing a police report on lost handgun 20 years ago?

A friend lost a handgun 20 years ago. Never filed police report.

Any problem with him filing the police report today ?

Bo issue, but may get a weird stare as to why he waited so long. Does he have the serial number? If not, they probably won't take a report anyways.

does the friend recall where (city/county) he lost the firearm 20 years ago? he will need to contact them to file i believe. if so, they big question is going to be why wasn't it filed and reported to the ATS then?

            it is in LA city.
it was stolen. only few things were taken.

he is worried about getting in trouble for reporting it this late. is there a law about reporting ?

Not sure how accurate this is:

"California recently enacted a law that would have required gun owners to report the loss or theft of their guns but the governor vetoed it."
Women's rights and gun rights are congruent.
Most women are generally physically weaker than most men.
A gun is an equalizer, without it, equal rights is a joke.
