Hello all,
I have a question about the legality of the chinese SKS models (also known as the type 56, norinco type 56, norinco SKS, etc.). I have seen these guns sold at gun shows, stores, and auctions without a problem. However, I was chatting with my local FFL person when she handed me the CA semi auto ID Flowchart (the same one listed on this site, in the top blue banner, right under "My iTrader"). Under the Roberti-Roos list, I noticed that both Chinese Type 56 and Norinco Type 56 were illegal. This took me off guard, and I asked my FFL about it. She told me that the Chinese SKS were not legal in CA. However I am almost certain that they are. After some brainstorming, I came up with this for how people get around it:
Because the guns are almost always import-marked as "SKS", even if they are Chinese, they can get around it by registering the gun as a "Chinese SKS" even though technically the gun is a type 56?
Is this correct?
