    No problem.

No such thing as a "standard capacity mag".

The term has no legal definition. One firearm comes "standard" from the factory with a 15 round magazine, another comes "standard" with a 7 round magazine.

The proper legal term is a "Large Capacity Magazine".

This helps to keep new people from getting confused.

        But I disagree.

Generally on a national level, the "standard" capacity magazine that comes with most glocks (and lots of other pistols) is 10+ rounds. In a few states that the government has limited the maximum capacity, like kommiefornia, we have "reduced" capacity magazines.

IMO, magazines that are well over what would normally be the standard for a given gun...i.e. 30 round glock mags, 100 round drums (for ARs/AKs) would be high capacity.

A 20 or 30 round magazine for an AR/AK would, again IMO, be considered "standard" capacity except by the gun grabbing left.

If a glock 17 in Texas, Alabama, Alaska, Wyoming and any of the other 38 states that don't have magazine restrictions comes with a 17 round magazine, that is standard.

Perhaps we should begin referring to the different capacities as:
Normal-general capacity that firearms come with in free states
Reduced-capacity restricted by government intrusion to something less than normal.
Increased-magazines exceeding normal capacity available in states not being restricted by the overreaching government.

Just because the overlords in 8 states have deemed that any magazine that exceeds state governmental restrictions is a "high" capacity doesn't make it correct. Especially since 42 of our great states have no such definition that I am aware of.

Edit: even though it's not a state, I forgot to include DC as a place that restricts magazine capacity.

Whenever I read the term "standard capacity", that would automatically translate in my mind as whatever capacity magazine the manufacturer normally ships the firearm with if it sends to to a state with no restrictions on magazine capacity.

In this particular forum, specifically focused on California and Federal law, using anything but the legal definition in CA Penal Code is a source of confusion.

For California, the silly distinction is 'large-capacity', 11 or more rounds, and everything else.

If you got that gun with that mag before 2000, yes.

Ok, if you like short answers. The short answer is "Yes", you can use the magazine.

There is no crime, under state law, for the possession of a large-capacity magazine (although a few jurisdictions are trying to use their municipal law authority to create one). The state law does prohibit just about every avenue of acquiring a large-capacity magazine.

Postscript - OK, once again Librarian has beat me to the punch (by two minutes), while I was tying my reply.

I think the proper term is "non-californicated mag"
