    Silencer required???

I have a motorcycle racing background and ride on the street regularly. At the race track exhaust noise is tested regularly and bikes with a loud exhaust are first warned and ultimately excluded from racing due to excessive noise.

As I get more involved in weapons, both hand guns and long guns, there are no such rules requiring "mufflers" on our guns. In fact, we are required to run an "open unmuffled exhaust"!

This doesn't make any sense?! Why wouldn't the government want us to enjoy our sport quietly without bothering/disturbing our neighbors?

Never mind.... Common sense + Government = doesn't go together

Because if you allow people to use silencers bad guys will use them to murder people silently.

That is why. Yeah it's stupid.

Maybe someone can explain how a new motorcycle has 3 times the noise that's allowed from a car? Harleys are the worst offenders, I can hear them from 1/2 mile away. Try that in a car and it will be towed away.

Suppressors are required for hunting in some countries; they are considered good manners in others.

But threads like these cause me a little heartburn, because they seem to suggest there are gun enthusiasts out there who would welcome state-mandated suppressors on our guns, the way motorcycle exhausts are regulated..

Silencers should be an OSHA issue. Even the most anti-gun country in the world, the UK, highly recommends silencers for the few people who still shoot over there. But that's what happens when you live in a State ran by tyrants.

I in no means attempted to suggest that we should be force fed silencers. My comparison was just that~ A comparison. One loud sport encouraged to hush down and another not allowed to.

The exhaust you here are after market exhaust. Factory exhaust are no where near as loud as what you have heard because of regulations. With Harley owners one of the first thing most do is change out the exhaust to loud pipes.

So you want more regulations on guns like they do on race motorcycles? You want guns tested on a regular basis? I know you don't, or at least I hope you don't. But horrible comparison on your behalf.

Your comparing something's sound output that is regulated to something that is not regulated.

If I did that on a car I would last one day. How is it these guys always get a pass on the noise ordinances?

I often wonder the same thing. Plus, frankly, they sound terrible, and some really are so loud that it hurts my ears. It cracks me up how they're all trying to get girls to drop their panties with the insanely loud "power" of their 65hp motor.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Other than the fact that motorcycles have zero to do with guns...
