    SOLD

After a few years of living in America, I recently moved back to California to further my career.

3 weeks ago I mailed in the appropriate form to self-report my off-roster handguns that I legally imported from out of state, having legally purchased them while I was a resident of an American state.

As of today DOJ has not cashed the accompanying check and I have not received anything back from them in the mail.

    Should I be concerned....?

You should be fine, there was a similar thread with a few people in the same boat... seems it can take a while even up to a couple months for them to get everything processed.

I forget exactly how long it took for mine, but it was on the order of months, I was to say I mailed mine in back in April and didn't get a reply or the check cashed until Dec.

DOJ will send some people to your house to confiscate the handguns that you listed on the form that they never received.

I think processing these forms is a low priority.

8 months turnaround time! Wow. Well, thanks for the replies folks. I was concerned there might have been some kind of problem but I'm a little more at ease now that I know this is a normal experience.

Yup, just sit back and enjoy your off-roster firearms.

I think everything this state does for the law-abiding taxpayer is a low priority...

When I first moved out of California to Arizona, I went to the Arizona MVD (equivalent to the CA DMV) to transfer over my driver's license as well as register/title my car.

I walked out... Yes, walked out with my new driver's license, my new license plate, my new title, and my new car registration in hand.

Meanwhile, I'm checking the mailbox every day for my CA paperwork to arrive...

That's CA DMV for you, if you have AAA though life will be easier.
I walked in and walked out with new license plates, registration/stickers in 15 minutes.

Pays to have it. Don't have to deal with employees who have given up on life either.

Good luck with that. I think every swinging dick at the DMV is busy processing driver's licenses for illegal aliens. I don't blame the DMV, but they are seriously understaffed to handle the amount of work required to process illegal alien driver's licenses. Most other functions appear to be taking way longer than normal. For example, it took me a month to receive my new car registration and tags, so I was like an illegal alien for a few weeks driving around with my expired tags. Also, my driver's license is about to expire and not a peep from the DMV. I already made an appointment to get a new DL, but have not received any notice or paperwork.

I mailed my form in January, they cashed my check two weeks later. I just recieved a letter for one of my pistols last week, and the one for the other two days ago. That's pretty fast for California, I think.

Personal checks are considered 'stale' after six months and a bank may or may not cash such a check, depending on their internal policies.
