    California Assault Weapons Ban Video

    Hi folks,

Although I don't spend much time on here I do sympathize with Californian gun owners (despite not residing in that state). I am a foreign national who CCW & OC.

You had one of the finest of the states and it's a shame it's at a low-ebb these days.

Anyway, just a few weeks ago I got a message on my Youtube account from a young Californian man.

He'd traveled in his car with his sidearm in a glovebox. Innocently he thought this was ok doing that.
Unfortunately he was pulled over during a routine traffic stop and his car was searched.

Well the long story short is they found the gun, charged him with not transporting it correctly and confiscated it pending court appearance.

He told me all this having been watched my Cali Gun Law video (a shame he had not seen it prior to being pulled over).

With this in mind I decided to get another video made in the hope that he and others will at least know about the AWB restrictions.

Sorry for the ramble, here's the video.

EDIT: I can't the embed to work so here's the link:

Incidentally the youth says he's been told he'll get his pistol back BUT will be getting hit with a misdemenour sentence (he's pleading guilty). This occurred in central Cali. I believe.

In typical nazi tactics anything on black and white photo ( the gun is black, background grey, white ) n is evil.

I know, I was tempted to try and make the video with color stock pictures but there wouldn't have been a consistency to it alas.
They were originally brighter to the point where it was hard to make out the gun so I darkened it so it was a bit clearer on the eye.

EDIT: Thanks for fixing that video embed Steve

Thanks for making the video, but I always find it disturbing that people respond to videos more than a simple document with text and pictures.

Watching a video that is basically a transcription of a document is generally really frustrating for me.. I can skim a document, or read it at whatever pace I want.

A video of a document is just... ugh. So frustrating.

          Or is it just me?

I sympathize, but different people have different learning styles. Some people absorb information more easily when it's a little more bite-sized and paired with images. Might not be for everyone but I think any effort to better inform people is a good one.

The 'different learning styles' is important to recognize; I probably read 10x faster than I can watch (or listen to) anything - I'm just not 'visually oriented'. That can be a limitation - don't ask me to design a web page!

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I know I could have done a speaking video, but to cover every aspect of the subject like the text-video does would have had to of been in 2 or even 3 parts mate. Also, as a Briton talking of Californian Gun Laws it would have sounded quite odd to an American listener, this was the other factor.

Having said that, I may even make a laymans video explanation in future times...

I'm extremely visually oriented... reading a block of text I sometimes find difficult, but I like diagrams, drawings, and flowcharts.

But for some reason, instructional youtube videos drive me absolutely nuts...

And apologies for the thread digression... also I hope I don't sound ungrateful. I think it is great that people spend the time to try to educate.

                      Hmm.

Well I did make this other video about California Gun Law - A general overview from like the 1920s onwards.

It is text and picture based, but a lot larger writing, less blocky (for the most part and menu navigational).

This is a good watch that strips away the name game the politicians and media has been intentionally playing since the 80s. Particularly for those with zero firearms knowledge.

The problem I have with this video and others that clarify the difference between assault rifles and "assault weapons" is that they seem to come from the position that actual assault rifles are either bad or not covered by the 2A. I keep looking but can never find the "sporting purpose" qualifier in the constitution that certain lawmakers like to lean on when proposing and passing rights restricting laws. Guess it is right below the overall and barrel length restrictions that I cant seem to find either.

To the OP, thank you for your effort. Until things get turned around here it is good to have a warning for visitors that what is completely legal in the majority of states will get you arrested and charged here.
