Not sure which planet you're from, but the middle east AIN'T like the rest of the world...and no country is just like the USA.

Arab states (that's international speak for "countries") have always governed on the caste system. If you aren't rich, royalty, or related to royalty....you are NOT part of the government.

    You are a subject.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

A very important lesson to be learned from this is that anyone who plans to use a gun in any type of defense situation has to be prepared for a police response. The police responded to a shooting call, and were more than likely given limited information about the shooter. Even if given a very accurate description of the shooter, those details could be wrong or changed before their arrival.

You cannot rely on the police hearing you say you are the homeowner or even believing what you say. You are holding a gun at the scene of a shooting call. Walking toward the police, continuing to point the gun at the badguy, or a host of other actions can be perceived as a threat. There is no need to put your safety on the line by continuing to hold the gun in a firing position.

Your objective in this situation should be defense of yourself and those around you. When the threat is stopped, get yourself and everyone else to safety and get the gun out of your hands. This is not an issue of gun rights, homeowner rights or anything else. Like others have pointed out, it is a matter of survival. Could you walk or run into a room, and decide which of the two people holding guns was a criminal before they shot you or the goodguy?

It has to be a mindset that before police arrive the gun needs to be non-threatening. Sorry for the rant.
