I don't disagree with that. It should, but it doesn't.Originally posted by garand1945It's a shame that innocents have to die, but that's war. But I disagree with you assessment, rather than encouraging more terrorists, it should discourage it.
I agree with you on the liberation part, we fumbled things afterwards.Originally posted by garand1945We haven't given Iraq and Afghanistan 0.01% of what we did to Japan and Germany. We didn't hold the average Iraqi and Afgani responsible, we liberated them.
By the way, Al Qaeda's presence in Iraq prior to the invasion was negligible. They established themselves after the invasion.
Japan and Germany were nations at war. Iraq and Afghanistan were not. Japan and Germany had troops wearing uniforms representing those countries making it easier to distinguish friend from foe. Al Qaeda does not. So if you want to kill them all, there's an awful lot of killin' to be done. Even if you wipe out all islamic countries, how do you get to the homegrown terrorists, like the ones that bombed the London buses and subways? Internment camps?Originally posted by garand1945Don't worry, we can kill them faster than they can make them. If they want to throw more terrorists at it, they will suffer the same fate as Japan and Germany did.
This war is based on ideology, not territory. The link uses the Cold War as an example, but another instance of an ideological war was the Vietnam war. The more battles we won, the more it strengthened the enemy's resolve and determination. They thought we wanted to colonize them like the French. You can't win an ideological war with force. You'll win every battle and in the end still lose the war.Comment

The Dems are making a big deal about Gov. Palin not having any experience in foreign affairs, lets roll the time clock back and can anyone give us some examples of what experience Al Gore had? I can't remember. Isn't that why they have cabinet members who are more in the loop of foreign affairs? Just seems like the Dems are trying to find faults with Gov. Palin.Last edited by BroncoBob; 09-01-2008, 4:26 PM.sigpic

Perhaps not at the federal level, yet (I hope and pray
)...
She has an 80% approval rating in AK...extremely high. But understand AK is a lot like ID. It's a sparsely populated state, it's welfare / immigration / help-me-'cause-I-made "bad choices" system is in its infancy. The average Joe or Jane can speak face to face with their rep or senator, look them in the eye, and detect the slightest spark of bravo-sierra. Once that spark is detected, the politician is doomed.
Very similar to Ann Richards losing the TX governor race to GWB...the campaign went straight to hell in about 3 days when she said she'd veto a shall-issue CHL bill if elected.
Most refreshing she didn't get to the governor's mansion based on her husband's position.

You don't expect them to approve of any Republican vice presidential choice do you? It's just typical par for the course, only every time Democrats mention "experience" it may backfire. In truth the Republican vice presidential candidate Palin has more real world experience than the actual Democrat presidential candidate his majesty Obama the community organizer. The Dems are making a big deal about Gov.
