    2014 L.A. County Sheriff Picks

    Hi Guys,
I've done some research with others on our 2014 L.A. county Sheriff candidates.
out of the 7 candidates I only find 2 to be worthy. Stay away from the guys bragging about all their endorsements from the corporate owned mass media outlets and anti gun/anti constitution politicians.
1st- Another thread on here states Paul Tanaka is pro CCW. His answer on Facebook and his website regarding CCW appears to be patronizing to get votes. He does not mention the supreme law, "The Constitution". He only mentions he will follow current color of law, which as we know, is many times unconstitutional. The first and foremost duty of Sheriff is to "Protect and Uphold the constitution" , Our Supreme law, not "color of law" made up by the legislature.

See Pauls website here to see what I'm talking about.

    - I believe we somewhat have a choice between Bob Olmsted and Todd Rogers
You'll notice on Bob Olmsteds website he has a debate video. 2 minutes into the video he specifically mentions his first and foremost duty is to protect and uphold the constitution and his "Oath of office".

I also wrote Todd Rogers, this is the response I received back regarding CCW. He also at least shows a picture of the constitution on his website.

    "Damian
I believe that self defense is good cause. Under my policy as sheriff, I will issue CCW in a fair and judicious manner. Firstly, I do not believe the issuance of CCWs should be in any way connected to ones political connections. CCWs should be granted without prejudice. That said I will have a strong criteria for issuance that include criminal, mental health and good standing back ground investigations. By good standing I mean if my investigators find inn their investigation that an individual habitually threatens others with deadly force then that person would be denied a CCW permit.

I believe under that standard the vast majority of individuals will be eligible and receive a CCW permit.

I hope that answers your questions and concerns."

If you look at Todd Rogers Facebook page he's waiting for the 9th circuit ruling to be final. He doesn't say anything about issuing permits before then. Lou Vince and Patrick Gomez both have an A rating with crpa.

Might want to go check out/post in the Political Forum as there are a few threads on this already and it would be a better fit there.

Patrick Gomez was impeached from the Board of Directors of the LA County Professional Peace Officers Association because he couldn't follow the rules of the organization and acted like a supreme leader. No way would I want him in the position of Sheriff. He would be worse than Tanaka or Baca. He would make a horrible Sheriff.

Tanaka is NOT CCW friendly. I'm still hoping he gets indicted. He would make a horrible Sheriff, and you can forget CCW.

I know Todd Rogers, but haven't dealt with him since he was a sergeant years ago. He was a good solid supervisor and you always knew where he stood. He still has a reputation for integrity.

I know Jim Hellmold too. I don't know his stance on CCW but he has integrity and was one of the best street cops I ever worked with. He did not cut corners and worked within the rules and regulations all the time. He would make a good Sheriff.

I do not know Bob Olmstead personally, but he has a strong reputation for honesty and integrity within the rank and file. He would make a good Sheriff.

Lou Vince is LAPD without any command level experience. Being a decent detective is not a reason to put him in command of the largest Sheriffs Department in the world, regardless of his stance on CCW, which has wavered greatly when questioned. No thank you.

Jim McDonald is ex LAPD Command level, and now Chief at Long Beach. I haven't heard of Long Beach being CCW friendly, and if you want LASD to be more like LAPD, then go for it. No thanks.

LASD needs someone who can lead like Pitchess did, or Block in his early years. Those days the Department had one of the best reputations in the country for honesty, integrity, quality service and policing, and the best training in the county. We used to have LE from all over the world coming to LASD for training. The Navy SEALs used to train with LASD SEB on close quarters urban tactics and hostage rescue.

Hopefully, the voters will look at all the issues facing LASD and can pick a leader that can restore LASD to the top. Single issue voting, regardless of the issue, is not going to do that.

If I lived in LA County, I would either vote for Bob Olmstead or Jim Hellmold, with Todd Rogers in strong consideration. I think Jim Hellmold would be best for the long term because he is younger and has a strong vision. Olmstead is older than me and already retired. I'm not sure he could keep up the pace.

CCW change is coming through the courts finally. Don't let that be your sole decision maker.

It's nice to get some info from someone who's worked at the LASD. Most of my LE freinds are LAPD or work for smaller departments in the county. I was giving Todd Rogers serious consideration, but started backing away.
