Appeals Court Upholds Mandatory Trigger-Lock, Ban on Hollow Points

    Well, what do you know.

The record indicates that a modern gun safe may be opened quickly. Thus, even when a handgun is secured, it may be readily accessed in case of an emergency. Further, section 4512 leaves open alternative channels for self-defense in the home, because San Franciscans are not required to secure their handguns while carrying them on their person. Provided San Franciscans comply with the storage requirements, they are free to use handguns to defend their home while carrying them on their person.
Because section 613.10(g) affects only the sale of hollow-point ammunition, San Franciscans are free to use and possess hollow-point bullets within city limits….Given the availability of alternative means for procuring hollow-point ammunition, section 613.10(g) imposes only modest burdens on the Second Amendment right.

So, the first argument was overturned in Heller, which is supposed to be controlling. The second one - in Ezell, which is only persuasive (well, not to these judges, anyway). I doubt en banc would make much of a difference, so the question is, will SCOTUS take this case? Yeah, I know, we can only guess.

      Not a big deal.

The court is saying that the city of SF can regulate ammo sales as they see fit, since its residents can go elsewhere to buy their hollow points.

My gun safe is always opened when I am home, and locked when I am not home. Sleeping or bathing is not impractical -- I sleep with my pistol under my pillow and I bathe/shower with it on the table in the bathroom.

This is all much ado about nothing.

Who cares what SF does anyway -- it has always been the hippy capitol of the world.

Not impractical, but illegal in SF - that is what the plaintiffs wanted the court to allow them to do also. The court said no, unless carried on your person you have to lock it up.
