An Open Letter to Governer Swartzennegger

    Gentleman,

I am new to this forum, but wanted to post this email I sent to the Governor. Just fed up, I guess and need a place to vent. Please be easy to the Noob....

    Thanks...

    Dear Governor Scharzenegger,

Just wanted to take a moment to Thank you for all the hard work your doing. Thanks to your pen, my opportunities for hunting with my kids have been greatly diminished because of the Lead Ban YOU signed into law. I'm absolutely STUNNED at the lack of foresight and the mess this lead ban has created. The "Condor" range has expanded to what looks like over 1/3rd of the entire state, the "coupon" program was a hoax to begin with and the inclusion of 22 rimfire ammo by the DFG makes it a CRIME now because there is NO SUCH THING as non lead 22 ammo. Governor, I think I could forgive one mistake, even one as erroneous as this law was, but then I find my FEDERAL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS receive another blow from your mighty pen. "SMART GUNS"????? And I'm sure that the 50 round ammo limit per month that is now in committee will slide right through our anti-gun congress, right to your desk and right down my throat. I thought I voted for your because you promised conservative values sir, but your campaign lied to me and I will never forget.

Some days, I think Governor Gray Davis just stepped into a phone booth and changed into an Arnold Suit... with all due respect of course.

    Sincerely,

Jeff Mays (one of the guys who voted for you)

neither of your spellings of the Governor's name is correct. It might help to get that right.

        thanks

Thanks, hopefully, I won't have to add him to my spellcheck list

It's late and I've spent the last two hours reading in this forum, something I should have done, first. I've got a lot more to learn than just how to spell his name...

Just so you know, CCI has come out with non-lead rimfire. Not that I like the idea anymore than you do, but just so you know.

I'll never forget the .50 cal ban. Arnold you should be ashamed to call yourself a conservative. Of couse you also made sure your buddies in Hollywood could still handle guns even with felony records as long as they were shooting movies too. Where is the Brady outrage about that one? The actor "loophole"?

They tend to dismiss communications that appear to be from uninformed voters. Part of my job involves writing legal documents for a living that can live forever in Federal Court files. Your reference to 'congress' should have been 'Legislature' as the state does not have a 'congress'. I am not trying to nit pick but the only measure they have to judge you by is your written word. A little more time invested in the future might yield positive results

                  Sincerely,

                  Billy Jack.

Why are you writing nearly 3/4 of a year after the fact, when no pending legislation is on his desk?

Kinda waste of time right now.

Also, writing about "Federal constitutional rights" is kinda naive until incorporation of the 2nd sets in (i.e., one or two cases after Parker/Heller resolution.) So this will just go to the round file.

And the microstamping & lead ammo bills signed last year were signed in retribution for f***kups by Sam Paredes of GOC (Gun Owners of Calif.).

Sam wasn't too bright and tried to play T-ball when the game was the World Series - he created some drama for a fairly minor matter at a touchy time, and the Governor bit back by signing microstamping & lead ammo bills. At the Gov's level he just sees "gun people" and NRA gets blame even if GOC and/or CRPA screw up.

I DID send it to A.S. about 20 minutes before I joined this forum... (I was up all night reading these forum pages... What an awesome collection of knowledgeable folks) Most of you guys already know but those of you need an easy route to our Governator: http://gov.ca.gov/interact

                        Thanks for your constructive critism

Thanks, Billy and Bill for your constructive criticism. I am on the road to educating myself through this forum and after spending the entire evening sifting through these pages, I've realized how naive I've been about my rights. Being an Ohio Farmboy from birth and moving to Cali 20 years ago, I did take my rights for Granted. Sure, I know about Heller and I'm NRA, but as a father of 4 and business owner, you tend to prioritize the dissemination of information. I think I might not be that uncommon among gun owners. What really started to open my eyes was reading through the new DFG hunting regs and really, for the first time, recognizing the impact that these A***ho's are having on my KIDS rights. I appreciate the info for the non-lead 22's, that'll help, but "I"m mad as hell and I ain't gonna take it no mo'". I.e. I joined Calguns.net...

Thanks, again for the constructive advise and I look forward to reading your posts, making phone calls and writing my LEGISLATURE with care and from a much more informed point of view...

Welcome aboard, Jeff. As you've noted, there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here who know how to get their points across.

                            To all:
For what it's worth, I've found that the best way to write a critical letter to politicians, is to point out how their decisions will negatively impact revenues in the state or deprive them of an opportunity to gain revenue from taxes.

To get the attention of legislators, you need to point out how they can do any of: (a)generate revenue (b)reduce costs, (c)regulate something to advantage (d)get political P.R. points out of it.

The letter need to be fussy about such things as complete constitutionality or specific legal language when trying to persuade a politican. It is more important to get them doing what you want them to do.

One could make the argument that with the "cottage industry" of making OLL's to comply with CA law, the AWB could be repealed and replaced with an open-ended registration of AW's. This would form a revenue stream for CA, increase sales of legal rifles, accessories and target ammuniton, which increases tax revenues. Add a modest registration fee and the state would see millions of dollars flowing into state coffers. (Which would promptly be wasted by Sacramento politics.)

None of us believe that such a registration scheme would be constitutional, yet it would be better than the existing AW ban. Get the critters thinking about increasing revenue into a cash-strapped state and you might find some interest.
