    My reply from stienberg

    Are you in my district?

Thank you for your recent communication. I have taken note of your
concerns. I can go further and respond to your letter if you are a
    constituent in my Senate District.

Please respond with your mailing address. I pay attention to everyone
that contacts me, and I will be happy to respond if I am able.

If you are not in my district, please be assured that I am very
concerned with all issues facing the state, not just those facing my
district. I am sure you can understand that, due to the abundance of
emails I receive each day, and due to legislative courtesy to other
legislators, I can only respond to constituents in my Senate District.
If you are unsure in which Senate District you reside, you may find out
    by visiting http://192.234.213.69/lmapsearch/framepage.asp , and
    entering your mailing address.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    DARRELL STEINBERG
    President pro Tempore
    6th Senate District

Well, all he's saying is that he only responds to those in his district, but that he does listen to the views of all Californians. If he does in fact listen to all of us, I don't see anything wrong with that policy.

I got the same canned response and I interpret it a bit differently:

In this case the issues are state-wide and significantly impact our rights.
All legislators are paid with our money - not their district's money, and we the people support the benefit and retirement plans as well.

The automation / websites are set up to discourage you and prevent you from contacting all legislators. They intentionally want to funnel you and simply squelch your voice..

Darryl is basically hiding behind "courtesy" as a way to limit interaction.

The cynic in me agrees with you. However his verbiage is air-tight and you can't use the wording of his response as evidence to that effect. The key phrase in my other post was:

I wish he would pull a John Morse and come out in the open with his disregard for constituents' wishes, however we are such a minority in that state that doing so isn't necessary :-(

Well, Assembly Appropriations Chair Mike Gatto is my district rep.

Sent e-mail on Monday, have yet to hear from him.

Yeah; and it is a-ok to aid his opponent even if we don't live in his district. So to paraphrase old ice pick in the eye; 'you may not be interested in my opinion; but I am interested in yours'.

Remember when you were in grade school, and about Thanksgiving everyone drew a turkey following the outline of their hand? I'm surprised Steinberg didn't provide the same as an answer except with the middle finger prominently displayed. Because really, that's his POV when it comes to guns and gun owners.

I'm in his district and I got a boiler plate canned response about how "it's a complicated issue" blah, blah, blah. A whole page of a very polite version of I'm going to do what I want, it's good for you, so STFU.

I'd post it but it disgusted me and I deleted it.

                            Steinberg,
Doesn't matter if we are in your district or not, all our taxes pay you even though you are not worth paying, you are a representative of everyone, not just your district, so quit hiding the BS claim that you only talk to your constituents which we know you don't even care about. We are represent-less in this state by legislative terrorists that are self-serving.
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
