    Long gun registration?

So, I've purchased a few rifles and handguns, but am still not entirely clear on the process of registration. I debated buying some AR lower receivers, but isn't that kind of pointless, seeing that if there ever were a confiscation, they'd know where to find everything? My local dealer stated that the DOJ doesn't keep records of long gun serials, but that they are submitted with the background check. Is that true? With all of the domestic spying going on, I'm not sure I'd trust the DOJ to not keep records of this stuff... I guess I'm trying to get the real deal, as I'd like a nice billet lower for another AR, but am too paranoid about it being confiscated eventually...
    Any insight would be appreciated.

You don't have to register any long guns you acquire between now and the end of the year. Beginning on Jan 1st you will have to register every one you acquire from that point forward.

If some of the new legislation makes it into law, you may have to register some of the ones you already own or acquire between now and Jan 1st, such as guns they may choose to define as an "assault weapon". But... we simply don't and cannot know what is going to happen in that regard.

If registration is required for a purchase it is registered as part of the DROS process. You need take no action unless a bill is passed that redefines your firearms as "assault weapons".
