    Mossberg MVP

I am considering one of these as it accepts AR-15 mags but is a bolt action rifle. I am not clear on the new AW definition should it pass. Will the fact that it is a bolt gun exempt it from AW registration requirements or is the detachable magazine the overriding factor and make it an AW??

For now, semi auto is a requirement for it to be an "assault weapon".

Expect DeLeon to introduce a bill next year to close the "bolt action loophole"

Aware of that. I'm just wondering what the current bill, as proposed allows for. Is any bolt gun (other than a 50BMG) exempt from AW restrictions or will the detachable magazine automatically classify it as an AW?

In other words, which has precedence, the bolt or the detachable magazine?

Unless they have been rewritten since I last read through them, semi-auto is still the principal deciding factor, except for .50bmg, that makes anything an "assault weapon"

The MVP Flex has a pistol grip and adjustable stock. Because of the bolt gun action does it still not fall under the Assault Weapon Category?

I understand the MVP patrol is a bolt gun without those iterms and as a few have stated not considered an assault weapon
            Huh?

As long as it's not semi-auto or .50BMG you are safe from assault weapons laws for the moment.

"for the moment" are the operative words.

Better yet get one of those Remington pump action .223s that take AR makes. You can fire them darn near as fast as a semi auto.

Gun control is a slippery slope, this year they are going after semi autos, next year it will be "bolt action sniper rifles, and pump action assault shotguns".

Yeah, I was watching CalChannel the other day. I was struck how many times the Assembly Appropriations Committee mentioned the "package of gun control laws" which were on the table. I believe one actually said that "this is as far as we can go at this time".

OP sorry to sidetrack but it seems like your question has been definitively answered. My question is as to the M1 garand that IS semi automatic but has a permanent internal magazine that accepts clips.of.ammo. Who thinks Garands will also be considered AWs under the new legislation?

true, that's what they'll say publicly...what are they afraid of? being voted out of power by CA conservatives? or CA becomes the next Egypt/Syria?

next session is not too far away for power grabbers to close more "loopholes"...in the meantime, enjoy what you got while you can...
