Some signature-gatherers play both sides on gun checks WA

"Initiative 594 would extend the checks to almost all gun transfers.

Initiative 591, alternatively, would prohibit Washington state from adopting a stricter background-check standard unless the federal government does so. It would also prohibit any confiscation of firearms without due process."

    ---

I find it annoying that petition signature gathering is a paid job. Now they gather sigs on both sides of the issue and make more money.

Not that anyone truly cares as I realize this is a California discussion board I just wanted to throw out there that I have seen this , personally. These people are doing this all over SW Washington. Every time I go into Walmart, I get asked to sign.

I have seen pictures of gatherers flipping the script and read NUMEROUS credible reports.

Washington is a interesting state. We beat back the onslaught of new gun control in this legislative session that was introduced post sandy hook, this made the gun grabbers mad. They want a vote on it now. This concerns me as we have uneducated on the issues voters just like you do, and ANY new restrictions are a slippery slope.

One good thing is we have more than 2 times the number of CPL holders than Texas ( per capita ), with a huge increase this year. Guns are alive and well in Washington. Maybe we can beat the vote as well, if it comes down to that.

If anybody cares to know the history behind all of this it has been discussed ad-nauseum on NWFA.

I occasionally come here and read what you guys are facing this year, man... Not even sure what to say about it. I am a native Californian and knew nothing else until I had enough and packed up the Penske. I guess it makes me sad more than anything this is happening to you guys. I truly hope you guys can successfully fight this off and bring California back in line with the other 45 plus states.

I was reading an article in the Contra Costa times last week where a legislative rep was quoted as saying they believe they are leading the nation in regards to these new restrictions. These people are so out of touch with reality it isn't funny. Up here which is considered to be a " liberal " state, I believe its more libertarian in reality but I degress, they may as well be speaking Navajo or Apache. People up here would think they were from a different planet. I couldn't imagine Oklahoma, Arizona, etc...

Can you elaborate more on the situation?

I have relatives in WA, all registered voters. I also hold a WA CPL and have FFL03 'premises' there. Should they be on board with 591? I have read the all the links, whats the news on the ground?

i594 was a response due to a colossal fail on the part of the gun control lobby during this years legislative session. No new gun control measures were passed due to fierce opposition from freedom loving folks. A very wealthy Seattle venture capitalist is bank rolling this initiative. MAIG has also vaguely suggested ( threatened ) to assist.

          Bloombergs idiocy knows no limit.

I haven't polled but it seems the majority of us on NWF are in support of i591. It will essentially make the below, state law. You have to understand the state of Washington has little to no legal requirements for the transfer of firearms between NON PROHIBITED private parties. This scares the gun grabbers.

“It is unlawful for any government agency to confiscate guns or other firearms from citizens without due process.”

“It is unlawful for any government agency to require background checks on the recipient of a firearm unless a uniform national standard is required.”

Anyway. Should be interesting next session. The Washington State Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor Association just signed onto as supporters of 591.

They couldn't get anything through the legislature last session. Was pretty crazy to watch being from California and all. For the first time in my entire life I had my state rep say he supports my beliefs and will vote down ALL NEW GUN LAWS.

          LOL

We had a state rep propose a bill that would essentially force a duty to retreat, she pulled it before vote due to what she perceived as death threats.

          Anyway. Thanks for the interest.

Thank you. I will take a look at the NWF forum and start sending out emails. Some of my relatives are recent gun owners, NRA members and permit holders, I need to convince them to make the jump into 'politics' of gun ownership.
