    Question about Muzzle loaders.

To my current understanding muzzle loaders can currently be shipped to your front door simply by ordering over the internet with out going through an FFL or background check, is this correct if so and this my sound stupid but are muzzle loaders even considered a firearm if they are why can they be shipped directly to you.

I believe generally speaking black powder guns(rifles and pistols) are not considered firearms federally and can be shipped to your door.

One issue that some people need to be aware of at least in CA is that if you're prohibited from possessing firearms in CA you are also prohibited from possessing black powder guns in CA also.

CA still considers them firearms, just like they consider rifles over 50 years old firearms, even though you can buy one without using an FFL.

Look up CA PC 16170. It defines "antique firearm".

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

I've had ML rifles delivered directly to my doorstep here in CA w/o any problems.

ditto concealed carry. Specifically mentions them in the PC as No can do.

Still fun though. Just buy a bunch of caps and you pretty much don't have to worry about ammo shortages...

Bear in mind the joke that when your powder, caps, loading and cleaning gear equal the cost of your rifle, you can go shooting.
Stocks are low but they're sold in 1000 packs. You just need to score once to be set for awhile.

You can buy a converted cylinder that shoots cartridges and install it in your cap and ball pistol without going through an FFL also. Nor does it need to be registered.

Black powder firearms can be shipped straight to your door, no paperwork required.

Does this include replicas, such as 1861 Springfields by Pedersoli? Can I purchase this outside an FFL and have it shipped to me directly? (I think Studabaker23 may have just answered my question???).

keep in mind SOME modern muzzleloaders do no apply to the exemption. So that flintlock or Brown Bess that you wanted is definitely good to go, that high-power TC muzzleloader that accepts 416 Rigby accessory barrels may not be of the kind that can be shipped right to you.

In other words, not all muzzleloaders are created equal, just because they have a breech and as configured are not compatible with suppository cartridges.

What I think is more interesting of a question is are muzzleloaders exempt from SBS and SBR and DD rules. In other words, can you get a cap lock or a flint lock and make a SBS or SBR. Does a Blunderbuss count as a DD (3" barrel). These are far more interesting questions.

Good question??? I don't think an sbr powder gun exist unless you cut the barrel down.

of course. Like any gun you can modify an existing one or build your own. plenty out there have bought the barrel blanks, inside threaded them, and breached them. You can go ground up or buy something like a trade rifle and cut it down.

The bigger question is, is that legal. And I don't mean the gray-area modern inlines, I mean the clearly primitive weapon muzzleloaders, caplock, flint, even older.

That would be a question for the experts. Personally I would never cut a barrel down on an antique firearm as it would destroy its value.
