Reddit as a primary source on this board

    Hi there politically-minded Calgunners----

I notice a ton of topics on this board, and well frankly, all over the media, that appear to source from Reddit. How often is Reddit your first contact for information that posts either here or in the greater media?

Reddit is great and I love wasting time there, but it's not a reliable source of information. The moderators do a good job there, but their job is not to fact-check what people post. That's a job for the media - well, in theory. That's what good journalists/editors are supposed to do.

Fact-checking is essential. Sometimes, some redditors actually take it upon themselves to do it, but since they are all anonymous, it's not something you can always count upon.

So, like everything I read on the Internet - I take Reddit with a grain of salt.

+1 I browse /r/libertarian and /r/guns just to drool over suppressors, but the homepage and main stream political threads there are generally anti-gun

What is Reddit? Why is it so popular? And should I join it/use it/whatever?

I don't think I got a PM from you? PM me with what you want.

Edit: Nevermind. It just got buried. I am on it.

Sometimes reddit has the story first

The posts on reddit are often from first person accounts. They are made by people that are on the spot when things happen. I learned about the deaths of Chris Kyle and John Noveske there, before they were on any "news" sites. stories can be on reddit within seconds of the event.

The ammunition shortage has been complained about on reddit since it started. It took weeks before that made the news.
I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.
