It's time for an educational campaign

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been reading a lot of posts lately about people being stopped, questioned, arrested, etc. because of an apparent lack of understanding of California's laws by law enforcment personell. I have also been told I was going to be arrested by un-educated gun store employees. It is time to put a stop to this. We, as Calgunners, have a great tool at our disposal; the Assult Weapon I.D. Flowchart concieved by thisismyboomstick, and perfected by many others including REDHORSE. I puropose a campaign in which we can get this tool in the hands of those who need it most, the people enforcing the law.

I have made a pile of color copies and had them laminated. It only cost about twenty bucks. I am planning on mailing these copies to the local gun stores, police departments, and sherriffs office.

If we can get other members to do the same, and keep a record of where these Items have been sent, we should be able to cover the entire state in a short period of time. I even thought of making a few poster size charts for gun stores and maybe a few wallet size "cheat sheets" for police. If we get enough participation from Calguns members, maybe we can even get a little stand set up in gun stores with unlaminated flyers in them for their daily traffic.

With all the members we have here, spread all over the state, if everyone does just a little, we can get this job done.

I live in Reedley, Ca. I will start with my town. If we can get a roster of Calgunners going which includes the area there will cover. we should be able to get a good feel of our progress. This will also alow people to see if they can do anything where they live.

What do you guys and gals think of this idea?

I guess it's not such a good idea after all?

I like it, but it seems like those on the other side are deliberately told not to care.

The Calguns Foundation has committed to running a mail out campaign in the very near future. I suggest donating and watching these spaces.

Well I'm from the same neck of the woods as this fella and I can say from personal experience that our tri-county area is very uninformed on these issues. I doubt much anyone in any Fresno county-specific law enforcement agency is aware of the Calguns Foundation or this flowchart. And yes, the foundation is certainly doing their part, and I can't thank them enough for their contributions to the cause. I just fear this particular area is uneducated.

I for one second this motion, at least in our tri-county area. Seems like down south and up north are well covered, but here in the central part of the state too little has been done for too long.

I think it's high time Central California Cal Gunners get in on the action. I'm outside Kingsburg here in Fresno County and I will personally help deliver some of these flowcharts to my local law enforcement departments.

If someone can tell me the method in detail they used to print the flowchart I will follow their protocol. If someone can give me a few pointers on how to call and talk to local law enforcement offices without seeming rude, I'd appreciate that too.

And one more thing. By no means am I saying we shouldn't support Calguns. Donations are of course tantamount, and I plan to donate in the near future so long as I am welcome here.

I think it is a great idea. Even if you don't get support from others here, share it with LEO's, gun shops, and anyone who will listen.
I want us (gun owners, and all who believe in a society of law) to be a positive influence within the law enforcement community, and I would like that they in turn respect our rights.
Just do it! don't wait for approval here.

BTW, IM me with what you have, I will look it over, and share it if is makes sense.

I don't think that you'll get to far with mail and faxes. Best bet is going to be from the inside.

Here's what I've been up to.......................

I have a long time friend that works for the city. He is always talking with officers throughout the day while he is working. He asked me if I thought it would be a good idea to start talking about OL rifles with them. We have gotten as far as the deputy chief now. He has came to this site and researched. As far as the flow chart goes it looks nice and all, but without a DOJ stamp on it it's just that.................. a nice looking chart. We have been asked if we would like to take our rifles out to the police range, with the officers. I am not real comfortable with that though, yet. Then DC has seen one of the rifles with a bullet button. He sees no issue with it, since it complies to SB23. It has been brought up about talking about this in briefings. Not sure how that is coming yet, due to the fact that NO DOJ info has came out about this subject. Until that happens I feel it is still going to be hit and miss with them.

I would really like to go out to the range with them, but I definetly want someone in the department that is well informed out there also. I am positive that there will be some drama at first, but with some explaining and a copy of the PC, I think I we may be able to get through it.

We have been at this for about 5 months now. It's a slow process.

I might be crazy here, (ok no maybe about it) but if a LEO wants me to go to the range with him and his co-workers, and has this far shown the ability to grasp the concepts laid out in the flowchart, I would jump on that in a second. Hell, you might even get them to supply the ammo!

ETA: I do agree though that without some sort of gov. approval, with most LEOs, the flowchart won't mean a thing, kind of why its critical to take the opportunities to educate, and bring to our side, any LEO we can.
