I was wondering if Calguns lawyer is interested in an insurance to gun owners in California. Pay something $20 a year, so if you need a lawyer they will be there for you. They make some money and the gun owners pay little money. Just an idea.

lol... You'd probably be looking at a pool like system and would be looking at in excess of $500/yr.
But, as others have said... Some of us pay nasty retainers and I wouldn't mind something like this.Last edited by NorCalDustin; 04-17-2013, 3:30 PM.Originally posted by BannedinBritainThe only dumb question is the one you don't ask...and get arrested for later.Comment

I am an attorney and a member proposed such a plan to me about 2 years ago. The problem is insurance has a lot of regulations, and unless you are an attorney with an additional background involving insurance regulations, you will most likely run a foul of the California regulatory scheme.sigpicComment

Has anyone looked at the PrePaid Legal system? You pay something like $25 a month for a set number of hours in court and preparation time. Would something along those lines be feasible?

1. "Pre-Paid Legal" gets you a "mall lawyer" at their $99 price.
2. There's not that many gun lawyers.
3. The system could be easily overwhelmed with just a few cases.
4. "Utilization bias" = people feel insured so they go out and do more risky things - much like problems with health insurance

Anyone tried http://www.armedcitizensnetwork.org/? It's $125/yr I believe. I think Massad Ayoob is an adviser there.-Colin

A gunnie plan would be difficult. What would be covered? What would be excluded? How many subscribers would be needed and how much would they need to pay? The size of the state necessitates having a network of lawyers. Add the regulatory issues Randy mentioned and such a plan becomes difficult to set up and manage and $25/month is short."There are no outdoor sports as graceful as throwing stones at a dictatorship." OK, maybe I shouldn't have called it an insurance. How about a Calgun Lawyer Fund. I know that $20 would not covered the normal fee, but if a lot of Calgunner "Donate" a fund in their name, does it get away from the insurance liability. My point was to have a lawyer just in case you need one, but can't afford one. Calgun would keep all this money in a pot and use it when one of our Calgunner is in trouble.Comment

Check with your insurance company. You can get an umbrella policy of $1 million and it probably only set you back about $200 a year.Comment
