While reciprocity would 'help' our cause, I don't think that would be the leading event that would bring shall-issue to all of Ca.

No, its going to remain a slug-fest in the courts fighting county by county until enough is enough and the state is tired of wasting money on people who want to conceal carry.

I like the idea of a CCW permit being recognized like a drivers license, but I'm not sure if this will help people with California permits.

A California permit says "License to Carry Concealed Pistol, Revolver, or Other Firearm Within the State of California".

So even if a state like New York is forced to recognize it, all they would be recognizing is your right to carry "Within the State of California"

I see the Republicans attempting to get reciprocity into the bill as a "poison pill" for the Democrats to swallow to get their beloved "anti-gun" legislation passed. If they can get it to stick, it may be the linchpin that gets the bill stopped in debate.

I have family in MA and IL, this would go a long way to making travel to those places easier for me!

Let's be realistic - Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona residents visiting California represent only a small percentage of people here.
Just get a LTC from florida, arizona or any other state allowing LTC....You can do it now in the mail for both of them. If this passed a CA resident could carry a FL permit and it'd be legal to carry in San Francisco.

No, a CA resident could not. The reciprocity being discussed states that it would apply ONLY to permittees with a permit from their state of residence.

They would probably add a provision that you have to be resident of the state for which the permit was issued. They wouldn't miss an opportunity to still screw some people.

New York most certainly isn't Wyoming. I feel safe without a gun in Wyoming.

I think this is cool! Hey, Obama keeps talking about "working together". This is an example of working together! They get something which they want, which is reasonable (universal background checks) and we get something we want, which is reasonable (universal LTCs).

(Side note: yes, I know, California residents won't be able to carry in California with their Utah non-res permits. Not a big deal. Many of us are considering changing our residence anyway, due to taxes, collapsing public services, a tsunami of municipal bankruptcies, and crime here in California. And also this will put even more pressure on California's sheriffs and chiefs to issue.)

Yes, this would be very cool, but it's not happening.
