    Is this the truth?

It's not true, parts kits are still legal to ship into CA. The dealer is just taking the mag and selling it someone else at a high markup.

I figured that was the case, but 3 in a row, damn greedy people I guess.

There is a certain amount of ignorance/confusion and CYA at work on the part of the sellers. They may just not be sure and not be willing to risk using your interpretation of the law.

I don't doubt that is possible, but for all of them to say "I called the CA DOJ and asked", made me question it. I'm calling Monday to see if they say it to me.

I have heard the strangest things when I have spoken to the CA DOJ about CA gun laws.

Most of the information they give seems to be inaccurate. I'm not sure if that is due to simple incompetence/ignorance on the part of their employees, or whether it is an organized disinformation campaign.

It's incompetence, in the sense that the folks answering the phones are not lawyers authorized to speak on behalf of the Attorney General. If one does not get an opinion, in writing, from DOJ lawyers, then the advice is just hearsay. Sometimes the hearsay is accurate, sometimes not.

I just had an order for a lever action cancelled by a Alabama company because the tubular mag held 12. I didnt fight it and will instead support a more CA friendly shop.

"According to the CA DOJ (I have talked to them directly about this), it is illegal to ship a “magazine parts kit” to CA that as all the parts needed to assamble a complete high cap mag. We can ship the gun, but you would have to agree to accept the gun without the mags."

No doubt the Gun Dealer called the CA DOJ and someone on the phone gave bad information. Happens all the time. Far as I know no one has been arrested and convicted for magazine parts kits. Might be a grey area of the law if you got the right LEO and County DA.

Stay tuned to the CA Legislature, they have proposed to specifically outlaw mag parts kits. We'll see if it gets passed and signed into law.

I know someone who ran a shop and did something that is supposed to be legal. DA didn't like it or him and charges were filed. Eventually the attorneys sorted it out and charges were dropped but it cost him $20,000. That's a huge sum of money for a small shop. I can see where a shopowner doesnt want to deal with the potential risk no matter how much we try and tell them it's ok.
