Hey guys this is my first time posting. I love this forum. I got a question, if you were 5150 which means a 3 day involuntary hold, it is stated that you have to wait 5 years to own a firearm. Is this still true? I ask because I have a buddy who had that happen to him when he was 18 but he is 26 now and he is worried that he wont be able to get a new fire arm. He has bought three guns in the past with no issue but what he has read about people getting delayed has him worried. Thanks for all your help guys.

It depends on the circumstances. Not all 5150 holds create the five year disability. A person can be placed on a 5150 hold if they are 1) A danger to self, 2) a danger to others, or 3) gravely disabled, as a result of a mental disorder.
If the 5150 hold resulted by reason of danger to self or others, then the person has a five year disability on the possession of a firearm. If the 5150 resulted from the grave disability provision, there is no firearm prohibition.If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. Hey thanks. Unfortunately he was going through a bad time and was considered a danger to himself. Although he is all good now and got out of the place he was in he is worried that it will come back and bit him even though he is well past his 5 years and has bought guns in the past. He is worried because he knows how people keep getting denied for past things on there DROS.Comment

There's no other information.
If they delay or deny the DROS, they'll tell him why and he can dispute it from there if it's a denial.
