Very few car accidents are truly accidents. Red light accidents are an example. I have a hard time applying the term accident to this situation.

An accident resulting from cell phone use is close behind.

I have always thought about relating guns and autos togeather. In New York now you can only have a 7oz beer if you have a 10 oz can it's ok but you can only fill it 7 oz's.That will make us alot safer? Another one if Mrs. Lanza would have treated her guns like her car. When you walk away from your car what do you do?Lock it up.

There is no legitimate reason for anyone to EVER need to drive faster than 10mph. We need to have an open, honest discussion about what to do about cars in this country. Let me be clear, the time has come to take action, to stop these tragic auto deaths, and that means... we must change. What I propose, is common sense legislation to make sure that it would become illegal to own a vehicle capable of exceeding 10mph (or 7mph in New York). Additionally, this bill would ban assault vehicles (vehicles that have a detachable gas cap and one or more evil features -- spoiler, hood scoop, Z rated performance tires.) Over 150 specific named vehicles would also be banned outright. Camaro, Mustang, Viper, Ferrari, etc. Together we can give our children a safer future.

well the police use them in the P.i.T manuver so that is a lawful purpose

            same with billy clubs

yea the term accident has an implied "intent" component(a whoopsie) that is why they are often called "collisions" or crashes

This was my recent response to a Facebook friend who said guns were not more regulated than cars:

I respectfully disagree. I don't think you are aware of some of the thousands of current gun laws on the books. The following is a bit tongue in cheek, but will give you an idea of what it'd be like if cars were regulated like guns...

The purchase of a car would require a Federal background check, and in most states, a background check and approval by the State Attorney General's office. Small cars would have a 10 day waiting period, larger cars 3 days. Cars made since 1994 couldn't have larger than 10-gallon gas tanks (nobody needs to drive that far). "Sports cars" made after 1994 would be illegal to purchase, sell or own, unless you possess a Federal Class III car license. Cars could be driven only within the state of license. It is legal to drive only in certain other states (reciprocity). Local communities could ban certain sized cars or ban them outright. Any car purchased out-of-state would have to be transferred through a federally licensed dealer in your state. Legislation could be introduced banning the transfer of a car to a family member. Gasoline could only be sold through Federal licensed dealers. Cars having "evil features" such as spoilers, fender flares, window tint, roll-back sunroofs, mag wheels would be banned as they are the choice of criminal sociopaths. Certain exemptions are made for cars to be used on racetracks only. Politicians exempt themselves and anyone well-connected. In some localities, it would be up to the local LEO Chief or mayor to decide if you can drive a car on public roads. In most places it would be legal for anyone to drive their car on their own property, but no cars within 1000' of a school or church and never on Federal land. Cars would be banned by make and model, as well as kit cars that look like certain makes and models. Adding a turbocharger or fat muffler option requires a special license for that part, requiring approval of the local LEO Chief, mounds of paperwork and a $200 tax stamp. Felonies and certain misdemeanors disqualify you from ever buying, or driving a car, in the future even after serving your time.

No one needs a car with more than 3 wheels.
If you drive slowly enough it is quite safe.
Obviously the only reason for that extra wheel is to drive fast and (by definition) dangerously.

So the Vehicle Safety Act 2013 should limit all vehicles to 3 wheels and
reduce the Hwy speed limit to 5mph (3 wheels are dangerous above that speed).

Hold on now ... when you weren't driving you'd have to keep your keys in a locked box and separate from the car. Also, your spare keys would have to be locked in a safe.

No more throwing your keys in your pocket or just leaving 'em on the counter where someone else could get them.

A criminal could steal your car keys and you'd be liable for any crimes they commit with your car, as would the car dealer and the manufacturer.

Piers Morgan: The 2nd amendment was devised with horse and carriage in mind, not high-powered automobiles and trucks. fact.

Carol Roth: It was devised 4 people 2b able to transport themselves w same type of vehicles used by those from whom they might need transportation.

Piers Morgan: Where exactly does it say that in the Constitution - must have missed it?

Carol Roth: right next to the words "horse and carriage "

Perhaps we should focus the discussion on DRUNK drivers. Therefore, as of July 1st, 2013, it shall be unlawful to sell high capacity beer packs. All Beer packs containing more than 6 beers, are hereby banned.

If you want 12, 18, or 32 packs of beer, then tough. You will have to buy multiple 6 packs. That should stop people from getting drunk right?
