    gun registration calif

    i am a newbie first of all.... wanted to ask this question because i am a little confused.... i always thought the police could trace a gun owner by the serial number on the gun for the last 30 years.... from what i have seen in movies alone.... now if that is the case our guns rifles included are all ready registered... now is that true? or is it just handguns

      from my understanding;
      only handguns and RAW (registered assault weapons) get 'registered'.
      long guns (rifles and shotguns) do not.
      since you fill out a form for the background check and DROS (dealer record of sale) when you purchase a long gun from a store, i believe they could eventually trace it back to you...but i'm not 100% sure on this.
      If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.
      AR's have finally become full blown "men's barbie dolls" now with fashion accessories.

        Long gun registering will start 1 January 2014. As of now, the info on the long gun is kept at the dealer's place of business, on the Fed 4473.

          Until they start the long gun registration next January, the only place the serial number of the long gun is recorded in on the paper form that the FFL keeps a copy of.

          This makes it next to impossible to trace the owner of any particular long gun unless the did a "voluntary registration" form and sent it in to the CA DOJ.

          An LEO would have to physically go through all the papers in every single gun store in the state in the hopes of finding a particular make, model, and serial number. And he would have to have a warrent to search the records.

          If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
          or heard it with your own ears,
          don't make it up with your small mind,
          or spread it with your big mouth.

                Until they go out of buissness then where do those 4473's go?

                  Not trying to be paranoid but genuinely curious - if the police recover a long gun with a serial number, can't they get a warrant for the manufacturers record of what dealer the gun was sent to and when, and then find the info at the dealer from there?

                  Certainly until long gun registration starts no one has a list in one place of who owns what long guns, but it seems like if they have the serial number in hand it should be traceable...

                              is it against the law to own a 30 round clip/ magazine for ar 15 or just to have it in your gun.... if they find it in your house not in gun is it illegal.. is it illegal to transport without the gun in your car unloaded of course
