San Jose gang task force, Feb 2nd

San Jose is having a workshop on Feb 2nd (Sat). 830am to 1:30pm

This will be rough for me since I get off work around 2am Sat morning, but I am going to be there because it is important.

I have registered, we will be broken into 3 groups. This is an opportunity for us to get involved and sway city policies.

I am sure other cities do the same.

If we are to protect our gun rights, then we have to be part of the violence solutions.

This is less about gangs than giving the perception of police activity re: SJ pension drama.

Of course there was a lot of drama regarding the pensions and the city budget and perhaps you are right that this is a dog and pony show.

Still I will go down and see what they are putting out there and report back.

Many of the people who will show up down there are people who aren't on calguns, so therefore they don't get our perception.

If these group workshops have people who are openly hostile to gun rights, I want to know about it.

Last year I went up to Oakland as a request from someone who lives in Oakland and cares about the violence in his city.

I attended the self-defense workshop and the police officer was giving people self-defense advice that would get people killed/maimed.

I just started asking some fair questions that had him backtracking and talking as if he mouth was full of marbles.

I didn't even have to go into gun control, in fact I was biting my tongue on the gun issue.

We have at least a two front battle for our rights, the court of law and the court of public opinion.

I think we can make a difference on the ground level in public opinion if some of us step up.

This may be a waste of my time, but at least I am going to try.

I'm not a San Jose resident any longer (moved to Mountain View, later to Saratoga) but the rising violence rate really disturbs me. It is kind of disturbing to see the reports and then realize that you've been to many restaurants, shops, people's homes, etc... in the neighborhoods and near the intersections mentioned.

I'm also being asked about firearms for safety by many San Jose residents, this isn't just abstract. Would anyone know of a good local defensive firearm training course I could point them to?
